The halls had begun to fill with students hurrying to breakfast, the extra bathroom down the hall, or their friend’s room somewhere in the house, and the commotion separated Miles and Aiden even more. Miles didn’t enter their room until a full minute after Aiden, and said nothing when he closed the door.

“Though small, they are private, and you are expected to keep them as tidy as any other room in the mansion.” I step inside the small room she indicates for me with a space with a bed, a dresser, and a single window. I place my bag on the bed, I feel a sense of relief. This space, however simple, is mine. When she finally leaves, I feel the weight of the day finally settle on my shoulders. This room marks the beginning of something new in a place where nothing comes easily. Daphne shows up at my door frame with a grin. “Ready?” I laugh and nod. “Guess this is where the next chapter starts.”

My eyes snapped to the tiny creature perched on me, and for the first time, I realized what had just happened. "You can talk?" I muttered, carefully cupping the small, trembling body in my palm. Ruby—the peculiar, feisty little thing—let out a sharp screech, her tiny wings flapping in distress. That was when I finally took in my surroundings. A chill ran down my spine. I was inside a small room enclosed by glass walls, a cage disguised as luxury. The sterile silence pressed against my ears, thick and suffocating. But what sent ice through my veins wasn’t the room itself.

We turned a corner and descended a narrow staircase. The smell of lavender oil and scented candles from the Alpha's chambers was gone. Down here, everything was cold and functional. She opened a door and stepped aside. “Here.” I stepped in. The room was tiny. So tiny I could stretch out my arms and touch both walls. A thin mattress sat directly on the floor—no bed frame, no sheets. There was no closet. Just a small wooden stool and a chipped mirror hanging crookedly on the wall. No fan. No air conditioning. A single, tiny window high on the wall let in a strip of light.

I highlighted the company's bus and walked into my house. When I entered, the lights were off. I turned it on and walked to my room. I entered my room and switched on the lights to carefully place my things carefully. I couldn’t believe my eyes on what I saw. It wasn't until I dozed off and woke up for the third time that I finally opened my eyes. I was in a tiny room. There were no windows to tell the time. Aside from a couch not too far from the bed I was sprawled on, there was nothing in the chamber. They painted the walls red, a sharp contrast to the light green tiles used. The huge chandelier, hanging from the roof shed sufficient light to the place.

A confused look appears on her face and surprisingly dad speaks up way before her. "The room on the left." He mumbles. I nod my head and sluggishly drag my feet towards the door on the left. I push the door open and step into the small room. There is only a small bed at the end corner, a small tv that looks broken and a wooden wardrobe. I release a heavy sigh and throw myself on the small bed. My eyes settle on the broken roof and I sigh again. If heavy rain were to fall, this whole place would be flooded honestly.

Susan doesn’t respond and simply unlocks the door and pushes it open. Okay, is the entire staff unfriendly in this house? Between Susan and Thomas, I’m not sure who is worse. “Thank you.” I step inside and look around. The room is small and dark. The bed is tiny and there is a small dresser in the corner. That’s it for furniture. I’m not sure how it is going to be when it gets cold, but it doesn’t look like it warms easily.
