Mane had just employed one of those many moves: Exploding Wings. Mane’s mumble was the trigger for the huge fiery wings that grew on his back. The wings were several dozens of meters long and several meters wide. When they appeared on Mane’s back they rose high into the sky, and flapped rapidly. Yet their beating didn’t lift Mane up or take him into the sky. With the beating of those wings, the cry of a Phoenix filled the ears of all who were here, and several large flames descended upon the retreating goblins, burning them all to a crisp. The fire was stronger, completely eliminating the goblins in less than a second.

They moved skillfully, and quickly, opting to fight opponents that had still been in human form. Ambrosia fought just the same but had Tiana and Zephyr as back up. This allowed her to fight wolves as well. Zephyr's white wings were beautiful and almost blinding. I wished I could have had more time to take in their enthralling, majestic beauty. One look at them had you in a daze. I reluctantly tore my eyes away from them to look at Tiana's wings. It resembled a butterfly's with multicolors, the most prominent being bronze and gold.

“So you all have them, too?” “Yes,” Cutter replied. “That’s how I knew you had them.” “Right.” She’d remembered him mentioning them once before, but she hadn’t realized literally all of the Keepers had them. “What are they from?” The three looked at each other for a second, as if they were silently debating who should tell her. “Wings,” Cutter finally responded. Ru turned to face him. “What’s that?” “They’re from where our wings would’ve been attached, if we were full-fledged angels instead of only half. We can’t have wings, so we have scars instead.” Cutter said it as if it should make perfect sense to anyone

“Please. Transform yourself back to you.” The air resolved into the familiar archangel, wings and all. And there it was, a faint, triumphant smirk on his lips. I have won, it said. “Is this form more to your satisfaction?” he asked, synthetic innocence dripping from every syllable. “Yes,” I admitted. “But lose the wings. It’s a bit much for H&M.” The great wings dissolved into pixelated light. He stood there, a remarkably fit man in a minimalist toga, our kind of weird.

“You are my guardian angel in human form, Hunter. You may be wingless… but you’re just as magnificent, just as beautiful as an angel would be. I love you.” “I love you more.” he said gently kissing my lips again. I raised a brow at him. “Really? How could you be so sure that you love me more?” He gave me a playful grin. Then in a serious voice, he said, “Because I traded my wings just to be with you, beautiful.” As we kissed again under the stars and the lovers’ moon, I vowed to prove him wrong. I have the rest of our lives to show him that I love him… exactly as much as he loves me.

Dark Melody had jumped clear, somersaulted and snapped his wings open to land gently on his feet. Wings, from what I’ve seen, are usually attached to the back or sometimes as extra underarm skin. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them sprouting from the ears. Mind you, I have seen helmets with winged insignia, so the idea isn’t totally without precedence. It still looked ridiculous in action. Unscathed rolled over and got back on his feet in a fluid motion that belied his size. He stampeded towards his opponent, who again came to meet the charge head on, and again leapt at the last moment.

His arms felt big and a small safe haven for her, she felt like she was in a world of her own, a world far from the torments of the gammas in a bid to make her strong, a world far away from the clutches of her mother. When he asked her if she was ready, she glanced at his wings, would they really work? She nodded slowly and in a split second, his wings flew open, widely. Her eyes went wide and her mouth hung open. They were real after all. They were white, a pure white and they were glowing.

They were unlike anything I had ever seen before—one side as dark as the night sky, the other pure white, like untouched snow. The contrast was stunning, the feathers shimmering subtly under the soft glow of the lanterns. For a moment, I could do nothing but stare, captivated by the way they moved, how effortlessly they seemed to carry an unspoken power.
