The night wind screamed past Amara’s ears as Damascus soared higher, the rhythm of his wings like a drumbeat against the chaos below. Smoke, ash, and glowing eyes blurred beneath them, but Amara couldn’t stop watching until the last flicker of battle was swallowed by the trees. Only then did she allow herself to breathe. Though war has never been brought upon my pack in my lifetime until now, we have been allies to others who have brought us into their war. We have trained all our lives.
