I scream at him as I wipe my tears. "Little flower, we are not ashamed of you. You just took our reaction wrong" Xander says in a voice that is deeper than normal. I squint through the last of my blurry vision and realize that his golden human eyes aren't apparent. His eyes are now slitted and the color runs like a golden river. I find them confusing but it doesn't stop my tirade. "I took nothing wrong. I felt how your body stiffened when he wanted to know where I was from. I saw the panicked look on your face when you couldn't answer." I yell as I step closer.

I called out, my voice small and terrified. There was no answer. I waded through the muck, my hands digging into the charred remains of the ivory petals. I pulled back a layer of smoking fiber, and there, lying in the center of the wreckage, was Xander. He was alive, but he was changed. The orange brand was gone, but in its place, right over his heart, was a singular, glowing mark: a circle with thirteen points. He had taken the Fourteenth’s mark, but he had grounded it. He had turned the hive-mind’s power into a human pulse.

Alone and fucking human. Xander stood up and crossed his arms. His eyes bore into me, making me want to shrink back, but I held firm. I was human, but that did not mean I would show weakness. I was an Alpha wolf after all, and this brief stint as a human did not erase that from me. “Because of him? You were all but throwing your body at me earlier. I don’t share what’s mine, Emma.” I was livid at this Xander and at Selene for making him this way. This was not my Xander because he would never act this way towards me. He would never make me fear him. He would never threaten me. This one, however, was not mine.

Tension set in, she has had enough. Alijah bristled at his words, her temper flaring as she defended her kind. "Humans are not weak," she snapped, her voice sharp with anger. "They may not have the same strength or abilities as vampires, but they have their own strengths. They're resilient, adaptable, and capable of great kindness and compassion." Scott rolled his eyes, dismissing her words with a wave of his hand. "Whatever you say," he muttered, his tone dismissive. "But I still don't see the appeal."

They’d stepped into a new world and found hate painted on the walls. “Our welcome banner needs work,” I said, voice a bit too steady. Shiloh snorted once. “Someone’s brave, I’ll give them that.” “Or stupid,” Harris added. “This isn’t just about me,” I said quietly. “This is about him.” As if summoned, Xavier strode in from the far hall, still drying his hair, shirt half buttoned. He followed our line of sight. His hangover died on the spot. The shift in him was immediate. Wolf. King. Fury.

“You are the second man with that face coming here and claiming she is your Luna.” His statement is like a claw gripping my heart in a vice grip, squeezing until it stops suddenly from the pressure. All of my worst fears coming to fruition. For all the precautions I have taken to protect my whereabout that pesky little weasel found me. “Except, unlike you, he had blonde hair and blue eyes….but the face was yours.” The warriors confessions have Andrew shifting into his human form, a snarl leaving him. “What the fuck is he talking about, Xander?”

Kohn snaps, and just like that, I'm back. My body begins to shrink slightly, and my fur recedes. My acting Alpha is demanding answers and my instincts will force me to provide them. Once I am in human form I meet Kohn's eyes head on. "Thatcher killed Senator Gavens. He also attempted to rape Amber...Amber requested we return," I state as my mind slowly becomes more and more human. "What? Is she okay," Kohn asks genuinely concerned, and I nod. Kohn steps towards Amber, and Malcolm growls. He places his body between Kohn and us almost instantly. Protecting both me and Amber from what he prosumes to be a threat.

“do do… do do… to do… Help!… anyone!…" After focusing on Layla and trying to find her voice, he finally was able to hear her. Alex’s eyes glowed as he stood up and slowly transformed back into a human. "I found her.”

“Seems rumours do go fast here, huh.” “Is it true?” He stared right into my eyes, not blinking. “What do you think?” “So it's true then.” A slight chuckle escaping from his lips. “Is it the same human as Xavier?” My brows knitted at the mention of his name. “Yes.” I replied through gritted teeth. “Very funny.” He bursted out laughing, his eyes shimmering in the sunlight. “Very funny how to powerful Alpha's are being fated and controlled by a petty human.”

Standing over him, claws extended and fangs bared, was Alpha Xavier. He hadn’t even fully shifted. His eyes glowed crimson, claws like black daggers, but his human form held. Power radiated off him in waves—raw, terrifying, beautiful. He moved like liquid death. One slash opened the mad wolf’s throat deeper. Another tore into his chest. The beast thrashed weakly, roaring in defiance, but Xavier was merciless. I watched, frozen, as he massacred the monster who had haunted every dark story of my childhood. Blood sprayed across the floor, across my torn dress, across my skin.
