The sparse tufts of sickly grey grass made the whole land look even gloomier. Yet, as in all things in life, nature found perfect tenants. Trolls. They were huge creatures with thick grey skin that you could easily mistake for a stone and with big shiny diamond shaped eyes. They looked scary, and yet there was some inexplicable beauty in them. But the trolls were not the only inhabitants of Canestor. Deep underground there were whole cities decorated with gold and jewels, cities of the dwarves.

“Trolls! Welcome our latest victims—did I say victims? I meant members!” Laughter erupted from the crowd. Raven raised a hand and the laughter dissolved. “I need a volunteer to wrestle them,” she continued. “Let’s see how fast their bones snap!” A troll stepped forward. He was massive—twice my height, thick with muscle, his skin the color of wet clay. “I’ll break them in two!” he bellowed, slamming a keg to the ground. The crowd cheered louder. I stepped forward. They laughed harder. “She’s serious?” one jeered.

It was a monstrous creature, its grotesque form blending seamlessly with the malevolence of the night. A troll, twice the size of a man, stood before them, its gnarled skin covered in warts and scars. Its eyes glowed with an insidious hunger as it snarled, revealing rows of jagged teeth. The goblins halted their pursuit, cackling with glee at the sight of their newfound ally. Leori's mind raced, searching for a plan, a way to overcome this seemingly insurmountable obstacle. He locked eyes with his companions, their shared determination unspoken but palpable. In that fleeting moment, they knew they had to fight for their lives.

Another attack continued to follow Wiggy who flew around the room, leaving a trail of fire every time it missed and hit a small balcony or lantern instead. “Face me, Coward!” Miranda screamed in annoyance. Jillie's POV “So?” I asked them not wasting any time. “Nothing,” Jarren said. I looked him over, and his shirt was torn like the others. “Why do you look so beat up if it was nothing?” “We ran into some Trolls,” Garret informed me. “Trolls.” “Yea, you know, small-” “I know what Trolls are,” I said, cutting Rian off. “They’re usually just meddlesome.”

They were not that big but they were rolling down like they were being thrown at them. They stopped and looked at these rocks. They rolled down until they got to them, one ran over Ambrosia’s foot making him hiss in pain. When they stopped suddenly, they popped heads and feet appeared. They were Trolls. “Apologies if we scared you, my king.” One of them said. “They were really not lying when they said you guys look ugly,” Ambrosia said making Luka laugh, and the Trolls glare at him. He was still angry about being run over by one of them.

The pack moved cautiously, alert but undeterred. After several hours of walking, the group suddenly came to a halt as a rustling sound echoed through the trees ahead. Without hesitation, they fell into defensive stances, the wolves baring their teeth and the humans drawing their weapons. Emerging from the darkness were several towering figures—trolls, their massive forms lumbering into the moonlight. Damien’s heart pounded, his body tensing as he prepared for an attack. The trolls were enormous, with thick, gray skin and long arms that swung by their sides, but instead of charging, they stopped at a distance and raised their hands in a peaceful gesture.

She appeared deep in thought, “No, it all happened in a flash, I saw it all happen and then I charged towards you then I saw the snake…” Dragomir didn’t understand what she was saying but he was going to probe later. He pulled the reins of his horse, she did the same, and then they began to ride in the direction from where they came. Then suddenly there was a loud outcry and an army of trolls emerged, they were very short like dwarfs, looked like they had aged centuries, dressed in drab clothing. Some had very large ears, noses and eyes. Their hair was balding, some had sores scattered over their already disgusting, wrinkly skins.

It had pierced the troll's thick hide with ease, leaving behind a gaping wound that had seared its flesh to the bone. As I stood there, the four trolls emerged from the forest, their eyes fixed on the charred corpse of their fallen comrade. Their faces contorted in rage, and they let out a collective roar, their murderous glares fixed on me. "Hey, I didn't do this, okay?" I said, trying to reason with them, but they were beyond reason. They charged towards me, their massive strides eating up the distance. I didn't bother to engage with them, instead, I turned and walked back towards the village, leaving the trolls to their fury. This only enraged them further, and they gave chase, their eyes

The troll’s molten eyes flickers, and the faintest hint of a smile creases its stony face. What are they always finding funny? “The whispering kind. Hidden wings.
