And stopped. The thick rug, usually immaculate, had been transformed into an island. A large blanket spread out like a tent. Pillows stacked into a fortress. Poppy’s stuffed animals scattered everywhere. A unicorn. A rabbit with one ear permanently shorter than the other. A Barbie with tangled hair from too many “adventures.” A rubber dinosaur that appeared out of nowhere and refused to go extinct. In the middle of it all, Poppy was asleep.

I asked Xavier if he liked sports, then asked Poppy what her hobbies were, and after a while the tension relaxed. “Um, Gamma Rory, why do your nails look like that?” Poppy asked. Rory smiled, “Because I was born awesome. These things can cut through fruit like a knife. Wanna see?” Xavier and Poppy’s eyes lit up, and they both nodded. She grabbed the apple from Poppy’s plate, threw it in the air, and sliced it with her hand. “COOL!” They both said. Raul walked in and chuckled, “Showing off again, Rory?”

She was on top of me, and making what I can only imagine were supposed to be alarm clock sounds with her mouth, getting louder and louder. "Alright alright, I'm up, you can stop." I answered, slapping her face like an alarm clock, getting her off of my bed.
