In the afternoon, I got the kids to nap and was about to rest when the doorbell rang. I opened the door and saw a group of sketchy guys. Their expressions screamed trouble.

“You know, only a princess could think about her appearance at a time like this. You’re a rightie, right?” “Right.” “I’m a leftie but… this is our first rule: We ALWAYS stick to the right wall. Put your right hand on the right side wall and keep it there. Never take it off. Whenever we come to a turn, we turn and slide our right hand along the wall as we turn. It impressed Sasha how she could keep her calm and sense of humor.

Just before we turned, Rowan cast Zach a deliberate, mocking smile—so unlike the composed, well-mannered man everyone knew. Behind us, Zach clenched his fists so tight I could hear the bones pop. Gritting his teeth, he shouted, "Anna! Keep this up, and I really won't come after you again!" I didn't look back. I walked away with Rowan by my side. At the corner, I quickly let go of his hand, flustered. "I'm sorry about just now," I said, apologizing. "It was just a spur-of-the-moment thing."

"Make a right turn and then merge onto the road,” I reluctantly comply with his instructions, flicking on my right blinker and tightly grip the steering wheel with both hands. As I take the sharp right turn, my knuckles turn hard from the sheer force. I continue driving straight, my eyes fixated on the upcoming intersection, until a sudden movement catches my attention. I steal a quick glance at Warren, who seems lost in his own little world, his gaze drifting away through the window. He leans back ever so slightly, as if he's trying to escape.

I start mentally preparing to turn the car around. “Yes, so to speak,” I say as I position my hands on the wheel to do a u-turn. “I see.” She exhales slowly. “Fine. It’s a deal.” Sexy witch says what?

“If I don’t get caffeine, I’m not retaining a single equation.” Micah stood beside him, hands in his pockets, hoodie sleeves half-pushed up, gaze wondering across the chalkboard menu like he already knew what he was ordering. “Kayla?” Colton called back. “Jess?” “Vanilla cold brew!” one yelled. “Chai, oat milk,” said the other. Colton tapped it into his phone. “Alright, I got Micah, Callum, me, the girls…” Then he froze. “Shit,” he said suddenly. “I gotta call Amelia. Forgot to ask what she wants.”

How could you just stop loving me and go to my brother? His eyes were red, and his voice was rough as he tried to kiss my neck. "Let me remind you of how good we can be together!" However, everything about him—his words, his smell, his touch—made me feel sick. When he tried to kiss me, I turned away, gagging. Elliot got mad. "No hiding!" As he yelled, he grabbed my chin and made me look at him. "Look at me! Say you love me! Don't make me hurt you! Say it!" He was frantic, but my eyes showed no love. Seeing that, tears filled his eyes.

James lied. "Right, right, we all got the call. Looks like it's pretty urgent," Ryan added. "Carol, you'll have to tough it out tonight. You've done it before, and one more day won't kill you. Just don't go wandering off on your own, okay? It's too risky with your leg," Nathan warned. They did not even wait for my reply before they left, leaving nothing but their retreating shadows. Staring down at my legs, I whispered to myself, "Is it true…"

Now that I am in familiar territory, I use the time to work on some tricks. I have been practicing what I like to call a double J spin, or in other words a 360 degree spin. Just after exiting the last turn, I engage my handbrake, which locks my back wheels, I reverse 180 then gas it. Once I pull out of the original J turn, I then repeat the maneuvers once again, so that I am facing the original way I was heading.
