When a twig snaps in two just feet from where she stands, Bella takes off at a run, pushing through the low hanging, bare limbs and the twigs on the ground that scratch at her ankles.
As she reaches a small clearing in the trees, where the moon is shining down brightly, she feels the presence of someone behind her. Bella looks ahead, but with a small scream, she stops running, sliding to a halt. Less than thirty yards away the ground ends, opening up into a large canyon, it appears.
