Typical Novel Word Count Novels & Stories

I heard her inhale and exhale and then she calmly waved me goodbye and ended the call. Walking my peanut butter to the sitting room, I picked up my laptop and turned it on, quickly loading up my Microsoft app. My gaze dripped to the word count and I felt a split surge of surprise mixed with panic at the number of words that were staring back at me. I'd thought I'd written more than that. It took me a while to get back into my character's headspace but my fingers typed away after I had achieved that feat. I'd added more than three thousand words by the time I became a little spent. And my sandwich had remained untouched through it all.

Alyssa, with a piercing gaze, said, "I hold high hopes for my authors, not like you. Especially this newbie, ah, I forget the name, but a little push from me, and who knows? They might be the next big thing." Pausing for effect, Alyssa added with feigned concern, "By the way, Lulu, I heard many authors under your guidance fell sick. Too diligent in their writing, perhaps? Ah, the pressures on authors these days. Writing 10,000 words a day isn't enough; some even write 20,000 to 30,000. They must think they're typewriters."

no villain this time I promise but I can't promise that one of them won't become the villain. I might end up changing the whole setting of the story but the characters will remain the same and they will do what they intentionally planned to do. I intend to make the story reach 200k words and with that, it's going to be my longest book...I can't believe I wrote so much. The word counts used to scare me too much. This was actually my second book and still, I love it the most cause it just tired out so well...and still I changed it so much. But it's just getting better as I make changes in it.

The author’s writing was simple and easy to read, without much complexity in the prose. Despite that, she only managed to read slightly less than half of the total word count. She inserted a bookmark and flipped to the final page. She realized that Angie left a comment on the final chapter too, in which she gave the author a thorough scolding.

The next moment, darkness occupied me completely. To my readers: How time goes by. It has been around two months since I started to provide my writings to you. It just happened naturally and unknowingly. And the total amount of words is about to achieve 50 thousand. It is quite an exciting and important moment for new novel writers. "I would love to read some of it," I replied, feeling excited at the prospect of getting a glimpse into Max's creative mind. As I read through them, I was impressed by her writing style and the way she crafted her characters and their relationships.

I carry out my updates like this to avoid unduly stretching the book, as I plan to finish this book with just sixty to sixty-five chapters. If I update everyday, I would have to be updating an average of fourteen thousand words in a week, which is kind of a lot for me to handle as I am also busy with work and other things. This has been a story that has been five years in the making. This went from a five page 2000 word document that I wrote with the help of a few friends the a well over 40,000 word novel. At this point, I don't have anymore of the story written out. This is due to a career change that takes up most of my time. I hope to continue writing this story and I'm even thinking of a possible sequel, however the process will be much slower than planned.
