One end of the space was divided by silver floor-to-ceiling bars. In the cage, a beast roamed, snarling the instant they came into view. It was an ugly thing, its large and muscled body looking too big for his strong but lean legs. It walked on all fours, like a wild ape, but it resembled a canine. Its fur was long and shaggy, its teeth huge and jagged. It was a werewolf, but a very deformed one. "The Sorcerer Clan will forever be in debt to your brother for his great sacrifice."

A ridiculously good-looking one though. "That huge zit on your face," I snapped back. He narrowed his eyes at me. "That's not even possible." Damn, so he must have been a werewolf. Although I, personally, couldn't distinguish between our kind, they could recognize I was one of them—I apparently still smelled like one even without my wolf. "Guess you must be growing weak then," I came back quickly. "Too weak to fight off acne now! Before you know it, your hair will recede, and you'll get scrawny. Then you'll be just as ugly as your personality!"

Then he turned and fled. The other alpha did not run. He held my gaze, defiant and cruel. “You are a disgrace to our people,” he said. “A werewolf working with vampires? I do not know what you did to make those idiots call you an alpha, but women exist to give birth to pups, not to rule.” My blood burned. These were the men who ruled the werewolf world. Old, hateful, and rotten with power. He shifted into his wolf, muscles swelling as he prepared to attack. He was slightly larger than Nyra, but I knew she could take him.

A better way of explaining it would be that the moon was their own version of God. She was the one who created the werewolf breed herself. She was or is the Moon Goddess.
