This was a vulnerable, slightly lost version of her, and he felt an unexpected urge to shield her.
He started the engine, and that's when Camila shifted in her seat, her eyes fluttering open.
"Are we home yet?" she asked, rubbing her temples.
"Zoned out for twenty seconds and voila, we are home. My car doesn't work like magic, Cami," he chuckled, keeping his eyes on the road.
Camila leaned her head against the window, watching the blurry streetlights pass by. Occasionally, she would hum a tuneless melody or let out a soft giggle.
