The Rift and the sky split again and from far, far away, I heard howls. Real howls from outside. Finnick, kade. They were still waiting. They still believed I would come back. I fell to my knees, glowing, panting, broken but not defeated. The crystal forest looked different—its trees still glowed, but their leaves were tinged with gray, and the air felt thinner, as if magic was being siphoned away.

A river cutting through stone. Then a massive oak tree. Its trunk is split clean down the center, blackened along the jagged seam as if lightning once struck it from sky to root. The top half leans precariously but still lives, branches heavy with leaves.

On the other two adjacent trees were six more circles carved in the same manner, except these shapes appeared to be pain
