“We ride. Now.” They didn’t argue. --- The Salt Caves were a day’s ride north-east, where the valley bled into white wasteland. Nothing grew there. The ground crunched under hooves like broken glass. Kylie laughed at me, which made me glare at her. “These two legendary skulls are the reason why this cove is named Skull Cove,” she said, which made me remember what the driver of the motorcycle that I rode on told me.

I followed him through the opening, and the space widened into a natural cave. Smooth stone walls curved around us, and a small opening high above let in the soft evening light. “It’s beautiful,” I whispered.. "It's safe. That's what matters." Kael set down his pack. "There's a back exit through that tunnel, and a spring for fresh water. We'll be comfortable here."
