Sniffing, I wipe at my face with the curtain one last time and walk over to my bed, picking up my phone that has already stopped ringing by now. My breath catches and I type back furiously with shaking hands. 'Who are you?' But the message doesn't send----- of course it doesn't; you can't send messages to or call unknown numbers because they've been made private or unknown. Sighing I toss my phone back on the bed and flop down as well, burying my face into the pillow and starting a fresh batch of tears.

I pulled my phone from my pocket, more out of reflex than intention, and checked the screen. Nothing. No new messages. No missed calls. No notifications trying to pull me back into anyone else’s orbit.
