I said, laughing disdainfully, “I will take revenge on you, tear you to pieces!” Rowan grinned, saying mockingly, “I look forward to your return, your majesty!” As soon as his words fell off his mouth, his arm swiftly and accurately pierced my chest, precisely digging out my heart. Blooms of blood appeared on the bed sheet, like some kind of cruel artwork. “Moon Goddess, please give me a chance to be reborn!” I silently pleaded, just before my heart was harvested. At this moment, the dazzling full moon suddenly emitted a blinding white light.

“Why don’t you come see the gift I brought you two? I promise—you’re going to love it.” Lila stiffened immediately. Smart girl. She knew me too well to believe I’d ever gift her anything... pleasant. Before she could protest, a figure stepped out from the parking lot shadows—tall, broad, and unmistakably smug. “Miss me?” the man drawled. Lila’s entire face drained of color. “You… What are you doing here?!” Jason, Ivory’s charming and terrifying bodyguard, flicked his cigarette to the ground and exhaled a stream of smoke.

Thalia stays in her seat, by my dressing mirror, watching Nova expectantly. My baby sister flashes me a smile, "Im a sister's keeper," she says, her attention shifting to the device in her hand. She scrolls with a frown, "Blue Moonlight, Moon Essence, Red Haze, Silverline, Dark Moon. They're all too far."

He paused. "In the old stories, the ones the elders tell about the Moon-touched, there's a specific manifestation. Something that only the most powerful Moon-touched could do." He stopped. "What manifestation?" He looked at her hands. Then at the sky where the light had gone.

I tried to yank my arm away, but I couldn't move an inch. The elder saw my struggle and his face twisted into a scowl. He told her to stop whatever nonsense she was doing. "Unhand the stone, girl! Do not disrespect the artifact with your games!" I couldn't respond. The heat was climbing up my arm, turning from a jolt into a searing flame that raced through my veins. The red light vanished in an instant, and suddenly, the next moment a bright royal blue light made everywhere light.
