"We appreciate your hospitality," Axel began, clearing his throat to continue, but Valkyrie cut him off with a wave of her hand. "I am Valkyrie, remember?" she repeated, her eyes glinting with a knowing light as she flashed her rotten teeth once more. Valkyrie's eyes seemed to cloud over, her gaze drifting inward as she spoke. I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my eyes wide with shock as I stared at Valkyrie. But Axel's face remained impassive, his expression a mask of calm.

"It’s me," I whispered. She yanked me inside, her blue eyes wide, her small frame tense. "We need to move your stash," I said, my voice low. "Cain’s coming tonight, and he couldn't be too far behind.” I’d gotten the info from a Vesper contact, that was close to him. Cain was sniffing around Val, and it wasn’t good. My sister’s face flashed in my mind, her forced mating to a brute alpha ending her life, and I clenched my fists.
