** Ian The first vamp becomes visible shortly after darkfall. It sidles out onto the wide stone balcony that looks over the lake, leaning against the polished balustrade and snapping its fingers imperiously at the patrolling humans. A few minutes later, a feeder human is brought out, trembling and stumbling in her coerced haze directly into the vampire’s arms. It buries its fang teeth in her neck and the victim collapses against its cold undead body.

I let it fall to the ground, but my anger didn’t subside. A guttural growl ripped from my throat, loud enough to shake the trees and send a flock of birds scattering into the sky. My body trembled with the intensity of my frustration. I turned away from the carcass, my eyes flashing as I disappeared back into the night and towards the blood niche. The moment I stepped into The Blood Niche room, the scene before me was grotesque. Vampires who had drunk Keilah’s blood were sprawled out on the floor, their bodies lifeless, their faces contorted in agony.

The sky was cloudless, and you could see the stars starting to show as the sun fell below the horizon. “Well, I see we found ourselves a dog.” A voice called from the shadows. He was wearing jeans and a white t-shirt with the words ‘Viva’la Vamp’ written in red on the front. “I see fleas hopping of the hair.”

A muffled roar escaped her before she suddenly shifted again, unable to hang onto her animal as the arms around her kept squeezing tighter. It was a human scream that escaped her this time, long and full of pain and then she was falling from a great height, no trees close enough to latch onto as she plummeted through the air. The pain in her side was nothing compared to how bad it was going to feel when she hit the ground which was quickly rushing up to meet her. The fucking vampire had picked the most inopportune moment to release her was her last thought before the pain in her side caused her eyes to roll back in her head and everything went black.
