That should have been my first clue that something was very, very wrong. My vampires lay dead, some burnt to ashes, but most lay dead. Next clue, but for some reason, my brain wasn't piecing together the clues. They were lesser vamps, more than half of them fledglings. These were all warriors in training. Where had Malchi been taking fledglings without any actual warriors for protection?
