Lena's POV. “You are nothing but a clown I raised. You will die worthless and nobody will think you ever existed, not me, not even Dominic,” Elaine fumed at me with a knife in her hand. I pulled back breathing rapidly. She launched at me, screaming furiously, and I ran in any direction, my heart throbbed and my hands trembled. She was a few inches from thrusting the weapon at me when I tripped on my feet and fell to the ground.

Only a single candle flickering inside a crystal hurricane lamp, two glasses of vintage Pinot Noir, and the quiet, low hum of the rain pressing against the arched leaded-glass windows. Across from me sat Veronica. She was wearing a dark midnight-blue silk dress that draped elegantly over her shoulders, completely concealing the faint shadow of her healing injury. Her silver-rimmed spectacles sat delicately on the bridge of her nose, reflecting the soft candlelight as she scanned an encrypted dossier resting beside her wine glass. Her dark hair was swept up into a sleek chignon, exposing the long, slender line of her neck. She looked entirely lethal. She looked devastatingly beautiful.

Veronica began to panic, and she tried to move away from Luna Isabella. “I know what you guys are trying to do. You want to take advantage of my situation and make me replace your child. Is that it?” She asked, shaking her head in disbelief. Veronica was angry because she felt they were trying to fool her into stepping into their daughter’s shoes because they lost her years ago.
