Then finally, my eyes rest on Rhett. And he has a fucking smirk on. “Did something happen, Mr Victor?” The interviewer asks. And the temperature of the room drops. “Mr Vic….” His words fade as Victor gets up and storms towards him, his forehead creased. “What is the meaning of this? Do you think we are a joke?” Victor’s neck veins pop out as he throws the document in my face, and my chest clenches when it falls. With trembling hand, I bend and pick it up, and right there on the front page lies the one thing I never thought would get past my jotter.

She tried again, harder this time, symbols flickering briefly over her skin as she poured more magic into it. Still nothing. The book remained stubbornly closed, silent and unimpressed. Jane exhaled sharply. “Okay. Rude.” A voice came from the doorway. “Give it here. Let me try.” I frowned slightly, my vision blurring for a second as I focused. Victor. I had not even realized he was there. Jane handed him the book without argument. Victor took it, his expression guarded, his power rolling just under the surface like restrained violence. He tried brute force first, then something more refined, energy pressing, probing.

They all looked curious. Victor handed over a paper with plans for his wedding. "I have recorded some of my discussions with Jane here," Victor said with confidence. Alpha Ethan nodded and extended his hand. "Can I read that?" Victor nodded in agreement to Alpha Ethan's question. He walked over to Alpha Ethan and handed him the requested paper. After receiving the paper, Alpha Ethan read very seriously. It took a few seconds for Alpha Ethan to frown. But on some of the things he had read, Alpha Ethan nodded.
