Goldfire drips from my fingertips, sizzling where it hits the stone. "Lily!" Arthur's voice is distant, muffled. The storm whispers in my ear, its voice like cracking ice: "Let us in." I press my hands to my stomach, feeling the power there—not just mine, not just hers, but something older. The goldfire surges, brighter than ever, painting the cathedral walls in hues of dawn. For one terrifying second, the storm parts. And in the clouds, vast beyond comprehension, a pair of golden eyes opens. "Mother," the wind sighs.

From somewhere above came the echo of a howl, long and mournful. Ava froze. “Something knows we’re here.” Silas’s eyes flickered silver. “Then we’d better decide fast.” The chained creature’s eyes snapped open — molten gold, bright with pain — and it whispered a single word into Ava’s mind: Free.

She stood up but after walking a few steps, she passed by Gold. Seeing Gold weakly kneeling on the ground with no strength at all. She walked over and asked with concern, "Gold, what's wrong with you?" Gold had just thrown up and didn't have any strength left, she couldn't even speak well. Luna thought of something: "You must be hungry because you didn't eat breakfast, never mind, this is for you to eat." As she said that, she hurriedly stuffed a piece of snake meat in her hand into Gold’s mouth.

A shimmer of moonlight on steel. Elira’s dagger was in her hand instantly. “We’re not alone.” Figures emerged from the shadows—tall, cloaked, their eyes glinting like stars. Their movements were silent, precise, deadly. Elves. One stepped forward, lowering his hood. His hair was gold as wheat, his features sharp and cold. His gaze swept over Kaelen before settling on Elira. “Liraethiel,” he said, voice like steel wrapped in velvet. “You’ve broken exile.”

The ink on the book’s pages twisted, spinning like a tiny whirlpool. Then, out of the black ink, a single drop of gold floated up. It hung in the air, letting out a high, awful scream. “That’s him!” Gabe shouted. “That’s the soul of the Auditor!” The gold drop didn’t run. It stretched and grew into the shape of a tiny child, all gold. It looked just like any child, except its eyes were spinning clock faces.

For the first time since the war ended, both ancient beings looked alarmed. A voice echoed across the city. Deep. Ancient. Impossible. A voice older than reality. You thought wrong. Silence. Absolute silence. The sky darkened. A golden crack appeared in the heavens. Not silver. Not darkness. Gold. Brilliant. Terrifying. The First Memory stepped backward. "No." The voice echoed again. Closer this time. Genesis has awakened. The heavens split apart. Golden light poured across the world. And from beyond reality itself, something began to return.

The ancient gold in my hand was anathema to the demon. Silas Vane stood over him, his spear lifted, ready to drive the point through the back of Eldrick’s neck. "Silas!" I shouted, my voice carrying the full, resonant weight of a true Luna command, a sound that hadn't been heard in this valley for ten years. Silas spun around, his eyes widening in pure horror as he looked at me. I wasn't the servant girl in the dirty dress anymore. I stood tall, the golden torque gleaming in my hand, my eyes completely turned over into two pools of solid, unyielding gold.

"Mommy, don't listen to him! He's the one who appeared out of nowhere and started stealing all my nutrients! Now, he even wants to make you misunderstand me!" Lucky's voice rang out, so aggrieved and pitiful that it made my heart ache. I quickly patted my belly to comfort him. "Don't worry, Lucky. I won't believe in some random, unexplained voice!" I looked around, trying to find the source of the other voice, only for it to appear again. "Mom, stop looking. I'm Sunny, I'm right inside your belly!

I cleared my throat to get his attention, but he wouldn't turn or look at me. "Sir" I called. He continued to talk and laugh with the pillow-like I was invisible, I took in a deep breath then released it. "Hey!" I called loudly. He turned and looked at me then pointed at the pillow. "Can't you see that I'm talking to my mother?" he asked seriously then laughed. A cold shiver spread throughout my body the second he got serious, something about his voice got my attention, not that his voice was bad, no it wasn't, it was actually deep and husky, if it was on the radio I would have fallen for his voice without a second thought.
