"I can be Spider-Man and Batman? Best day ever!" He turned and bolted up the stairs two at a time, already lost in his own joy, completely unaware of the storm gathering beneath our roof. Alone in the hallway, my fingers drifted to the pendant resting against my collarbone, the one I had worn every single day for ten years. I didn't need to look at it to know the words engraved across its surface. 'Next summer, find me if you can.' I had written that promise for me and Miguel, believing it was the beginning of a love story.

“Totally thrives on this. Loves every second.” I nod. “Yep. And Josh… well, he’s chaos incarnate.” We both laugh softly, glancing at the boys and then back at Gavin, noticing the subtle way he shifts his weight, always quietly aware, letting the antics play out around him. “And that,” Gemma whispers, grinning, “is why summer will never be boring with this crew.” I chuckle, letting the thought settle in. “Never boring… definitely not.” Eben stretches dramatically, still dripping, and grins. “By the way… bonfire tonight. Full-on chaos. Fire, drinks, music—the works. Don’t worry, it’s going to be wild.”

Ivan will move on, and all of this will just be a strange summer memory we both pretend never happened. Honestly, I was beginning to regret coming back here at all. I just wanted a break. A peaceful, quiet vacation. But instead, I got swept into something I never saw coming.

I was giving her my best puppy eye look while Summer was offering her best smirk. It was an unfair advantage because I must have looked constipated while she looked like a goddess. “Summer is right.” I groaned, but Emma continued, “We haven’t celebrated in a while. It should be fun.”

“Kat, what did Rai call you? Any special term of endearment?” Max asked. Max and I loved to watch N*****x, so we spent lots of time watching any series available on N*****x. We were lounging on the sofa, with his arm around me, and me leaning back against his body.

"I was never your man Sam..please stop with your delusions." It was how his words were harsh, but somehow, his voice was so collected they sounded like silent jabs. But she did get the message, she turned around to leave, looking back one more time and then coming back for her egg rolls before disappearing out of the doors. I wiped off an imaginary sweat from my brows. " At this point I am sure you know everyone I met here this summer" I joked. " I probably do. We all went to the same high school and even though we are all based in different parts of the world now, summer is still held at Malibu. Always at Malibu. It's like a tradition.
