My father looked around at all of them, his expression controlled, but I could see the unease. “Listen carefully,” he said. Everyone stilled. “What you saw could have been a werewolf,” he began. A ripple of unease moved through the group. “But it also might not have been,” he added quickly. “That thing that just howled to the moon as if it was one of us didn’t look like any wolf I’ve ever seen,” one warrior said. “It wasn’t,” another added. “It was half human—” “That’s what a werewolf should look like,” someone muttered.

Loyd and Chris face them, standing by a bay window. I'm tense as a bow when the wolf in human form enters my field of vision. He wears black jeans and a white shirt, his hair is cut in a brush and tribal designs have been drawn with clippers on the sides of his skull. He was obviously older, probably close to a couple centuries, even though he looked to be in his late thirties. His hair was deep black and kept short in a military buzz cut. His jaw was strong and his nose was hooked. His eyes were cold, hard, and gray.

But the werewolf tried to calm himself, not letting his horror from the sight show so his wolf won’t attack him. That’s when Tyr saw it from his face instead.
