“You don’t understand. You’ve never understood.”
“Then help me understand,” he said, his hand brushing her shoulder. She flinched slightly but didn’t pull away.
When she turned to face him, her eyes were glassy, a mixture of defiance and uncertainty swirling within them. “Why do you even care, Tyler?”
“Because I always have,” he said simply.
She stared at him, her defenses crumbling just a little. Then, without warning, she leaned in and pressed her lips to his. The kiss was sudden and forceful, fueled by frustration and lingering emotions neither of them fully understood.
