Days passed like that, one after another. They stopped giving me random commands. But without a command, I just sat there, from sunrise to sunset, like a machine on standby. Every day, Mom sat beside me and told me stories from when I was little. She told me about the first time I said "Mama" at age three, how she'd spun me around in joy. She told me about the time I stole her lipstick at five and drew all over the wall, how she'd stayed up half the night scrubbing it off.

McKenna’s POV “Tell me the story again, mama!” I begged. “You’ve heard me tell the story a million times, pup,” my mother chuckled. “Please!” I begged. “Okay,” she smiled. I cozied up on her lap in anticipation of one of my favorite tales of the past. It was my favorite story even if I didn’t completely understand it. The world we lived in seemed quite complicated. “Settle down, little one,” my mother chuckled. “Sorry, I’m just excited, mama,” I laughed.

Mom said excitedly out of nowhere. I smiled and nodded. We made our way back inside the house. Settling on the sofas, mother ordered the standby maids to bring the albums. She opened the first one and a familiar face stared back at me. Younger me. Mom told me several stories about when I was a baby. I listened to the stories and laughed but half the time, I was focused on mom. My mind darted back to what she said earlier in the garden. She must have really lost a part of herself when they lost me but now she seemed happy as she shared my childhood stories.

His tone was derisive, designed to catch her attention. It worked as she slowly focused on him, blinking almost in slow motion as she gathered her wits about her. "I remember, Day," she choked out. "I was so young I shouldn't be able to remember it but I do. Mama was crying. We were in a cold, dark place and Mama was holding me so tightly and I could hear Daddy crying too. Then a pretty lady came and she took me and passed me to a man. I wanted Mama so I reached for her but she was holding another me but it wasn't me."

The car zoomed past my pack and the memories I had with my mother flashed back across my mind. I remembered when I was a five years old child and my milk teeth had just fallen off. I remembered I had cried my eyes out in front of the pack house fearing it wouldn't grow back, and then, I had thought when I meet my mate in the future, he would think I was a ugly girl. My mother had stepped out, picking me up into her arms for a hug while I kept on cursing the stone I had tripped over.

Tears fell from my eyes as it reminded me of when I’d get injured and mama would call me to the side, reminding me how strong I was and telling how I could beat anything. I missed when things were still easy.

"Papa is your soul mate, When did you meet him?" Fiona asked slowly and a small smile played on her mother's "When I was 18," she hummed softly. "Mama, my mate loves me the same way papa used to do to you?" Fiona asked again, her mother chuckled at her naive question. "Yes my love, when your mate finds you, he will not be able to look away from you, you will be the key to his heart... I assure you” Her mother replied and smiled her way and she smiled back.
