"I prefer to think of it as an overturning of necessary evil but war suits too." He stands up and pulls me in for a deep kiss. "I'll go get our girl." I hear him walk down the hallway and Winnie saying, "are we leaving, daddy?" And my heart breaks a little because the last time I decided to leave was also nighttime.

The sun dips low, painting the sky gold. “You still want this?” he asks. I lean into him. “More than anything.” He kisses my temple. “Then this is home.” We don’t talk about the past. We don’t need to. The war is over. And for the first time in our lives, the future is ours.

I ran a hand down his cheek and he sighed. "When this is all over, we're getting married." he said seriously, but I still couldn't help but laugh. "we're young. We're very young." I told him and he shrugged, "never a better time if you ask me." I thought about it for a sec and nodded, "how about this? When this is all over, when this is all over, we can revise this. I don’t want any of this to be clouded by fear, or anxiety… or whatever. I'm already going to be your luna anyway." I stretched out my pinky and he smiled at it, before wounding his around mine.

“It doesn’t matter who he is, Grandpa. I have chosen the right path, even if it means walking on it without my fated mate beside me.” “Are you sure, dear child? It almost lulled me into slumber.

He picked up on the second ring, and I told him where he can find Mara. I tucked my phone back into my bag and settled in to wait. I looked at Mara one last time, her quiet snores the only sound at our table. For the first time in a long time, the air felt clear. The war was over. At least, that's what I think.
