Novel’s POV “You... Alice?” The words felt like lead in my mouth. I stared at her, my mind reeling. “You are the lady we have been looking for?” “Yes, I am,” she answered. She stepped toward me, her presence cold and suffocating. She leaned in, her breath ghosting against my ear as she whispered, “I have been watching you since you were a baby, Novel.” She pulled back, a serene, terrifying smile fixed on her face. I clenched my hands into fists, my knuckles turning white as a tremor took over my body.

She blinked at me like she was the confused one. Then she tilted her head and said slowly, “Can… you see me?” I stopped moving. “What?” She stepped closer. “You can see me?” I slowly removed my hands from my eyes and stared at her again because this was already a weird day so what was one more weird thing. “Yes,” I said. “I can see you. Obviously. You are right there. And still very naked.” Her eyes widened. Then suddenly she jumped up like an excited child. “Finally!”

I'd only ever seen him on the news. Just as I opened my mouth to speak, darkness enveloped my vision, and I pitched forward. When I woke up, I found myself in a hospital. I tried to get up, but dizziness washed over me. Zane sat by the bed and was scrolling through my chart. When he saw I was awake, he looked up and asked, "How do you feel?" I was about to answer when my phone rang with another call from Damon. I refused to answer, yanking out my SIM card and snapping it in half.

She took the chair opposite, smoothed her skirt over her knees and waited. I opened my mouth, then closed it, then I tried again. “Something’s wrong with me.” Her brow lifted a fraction. “Go on.” “I keep seeing things,” I said in a low voice. “I’ve been seeing Anya’s face covered in blood, sometimes in fire. It’s like my head is splitting open and I can’t tell what’s real.”

Although, Amanda needed the escape, to get her mind off everything. She went into her room to get the novel she was reading in the morning before leaving, she had thought she kept it on the dresser before leaving the house but it turns out she didn’t. “Nelson! Did you see my book?” She asked aloud so that her voice could reach her brother who was now in his room. “What book?” He asked back. “What a waste.” Amanda said sighing. She opened the bottom drawer to check, she couldn’t find it in there but what she did find was an old album. She took it out, sat on her well made bed and opened it.
