"Who's there?" "Your worst nightmare," the voice whispers in my ear, closer than ever. I scream, running away from the scary words. Yi suddenly walks through the air, appearing before me like a magician, full of smugness. He stares at me and starts to laugh hysterically. Red blossoms on my cheeks as he smiles, examining me. "You look completely different now. It looks like I can talk to you again," he concludes after scanning me, "you don't look completely human anymore."

The portal closed and a heavy rumbling sound was heard above it as the creature purred ominously. “Let’s see if you can survive this time, Jai Waetford…” A chuckle escaped the figure’s form as the figure watched the little girl perched on the Gori-gori’s nest.

"Please, someone, help me. I can't see. It's so dark." Amon's shadows pushed into the room first, illuminating it. The Whisper materialized in the center; it was a vaguely humanoid shape made of compressed sound waves. When it saw us, the woman's voice distorted into something cracky. "Help. Me. Please." Then it lunged. Amon caught it with his shadows, but the creature was slippery and hard to hold. I moved in from the side, and my knife found its core. It was a frequency generator. The blade struck true. The Whisper's form destabilized, sound waves scattering in all directions before it dissolved completely.

he hesitated, “it means something shifted.” Dante straightened. “Tonight.” “Yes,” Whisper said. “Tonight we find out why.” Dante checked the clock again. 9:12 p.m. “Are you prepared?” Whisper asked. Dante didn’t answer immediately. “Yes,” “Which is why you’ll wear the watch.” Dante glanced down at his wrist. “Embedded mic,” Whisper explained. “Bone-conduction receiver. No wires. No signals they can easily detect. If they scan you, it looks like a regular luxury piece.”
