My mind was racing with questions and I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease settling in. I took the dead rat and held my nose, trying to block out the foul smell emanating from it. “Usually where there's one, there's a whole family.” “What's that thing?” I asked, gesturing to the device he'd plugged into an outlet near my baseboards. “Ultrasonic repeller,” Gene explained. “It emits a high-frequency sound that rodents hate but humans can't hear. Should keep them from coming back while we do the full treatment on the building.” I noddedz “We'll do a general treatment around your apartment too, just to be safe,” Gene added. He pulled out several more devices “The renovations across the street disturbed a lot of nests. These old buildings have all kinds of entry points we're still sealing up.”

She had been ready for months. Charmaine raised the basket and all alphas fell silent. She opened it and took out a small creature who had been dyed bright green. Purple or red would have shown easier, so she'd chosen a color that would add to the difficulty while still being unnatural enough to mark it. It was a rat but a small one, a creature that was ready to run. Megan knew this kind of rodent, they were rarely eaten because they were quick, and didn't give much meat for all the hassle they were to catch. She tensed.

I followed her, doing my very best to keep my distance as she kept hers. A blonde as neat and beautiful as her would do her very best to keep off from a sewage cleaner. They were large rats with thick fur and vampire-like fangs that had gone brown from feeding on feces and sewage water.

Its eyes were no longer red and acting Rabid. Crouching down, I watched it for a bit. If it weren’t for the red tag around one of its legs, I would have thought an uninfected rat found a way in with the rest. It appeared calm, while the other rats kept their distance. Excitement filled me with the idea we had found a cure. Grabbing the pole that we used to transfer rats, since it had a claw on it that would close into a cage, I opened the small hatch. It was large enough to fit the tool inside of it and high enough that the rats couldn’t escape.

She nodded and asked him about his mission. She really wasn't expecting for Yman to acquire such a quest. After all, rats were a very hated pest. They were gross and scary. Yeah, they have fluffy fur, but they were not cute to pet. Well, depending on rats though. Since there were rats also that looks cute like a highbred hamster. Highbred hamsters intentionally bred for petting purposes. But the thing was, Yman took the quest about the Evil Rats! Those Evil Rats were hideous looking with the body as big as normal pigs. And their mouths were dripping with greenish saliva that contains poison. And those pointed teeth outside its mouth, well, scary and gross when it bites you.

Kill? Jackson came up with a brilliant plan to expose the rat — identify it, don’t spook it, and milk it for all it’s worth. Basically, catch the rodent, don’t scream, and use it to bring down the whole sewer. “Yes, we know our lines,” I answer, channeling my most no-nonsense tone. “You’re sure one of them is the rat?”

I look at him, masking how disgusted I truly feel, and smile a little. I sigh as the door finally shuts and he leaves. Thank God. I need some good soap or handwash, and I hope I don't get rabies. Maybe bleach. Yeah, definitely bleach. Once I am sure he's gone, I change quickly into my gym clothes and open the window.
