I pressed myself closer to the door but it turned it's head towards me. I pressed closer to the door and surprisingly, it turned away and faced the poor rat that had been trying to scale the wall. It reared its head and was still for a while then it struck with amazing speed. I screamed briefly as I watched the poor rat move slower and slower as the poison began to make it's way through it's frail body. Soon it was dead.

The first thought was to pour a few bottles of any cloying perfume, with the most pungent smells, on myself, but this is not at all an option. Everybody has gone, even the rest of the guards. A car horn startles me and I quicken my attempts at searching for where the bleach is kept. I walk into the kitchen and I look around frantically. I see a small door and I jog towards it and open it. Bingo! There are shelves of soap, disinfectants, other products, but most importantly, bleach! I grab the small gallon of bleach and I jog back out of the kitchen quickly. As I walk through the living room so I can go upstairs and prepare the syringe, I spot Robert talking to someone at the entrance of the house.

Of course, it was the cat, howling from the basement. Letting the hand towel drop to the floor, Brad made his way through the dining room and back to the hallway. Something was obviously wrong with Phantom. The animal might need to go to the vet. In the hall, Brad noticed furtive movement along the baseboards. He stopped, one hand against the wall, and squinted into the shadows that seemed to undulate like black tarps with living creatures underneath them. He wrinkled his nose in disgust when he realized rats the size of puppies scuttled along the wall, clawing and gnawing holes in the plaster. They looked up at him with eyes that seemed to burn like hot coals.

As I reached there, my trembling hand fumbled for a moment, searching in the gloom, then found the cold, greasy switch and flipped it. Light flickered on, harsh and yellow, like a sick, sickly glow, revealing the horror within. I beheld it, and a scream tore from my throat, raw and involuntary, filled with pure revulsion. Rats, not small ones, but big as small cats, with beady, malevolent eyes and twitching whiskers, jumped out from the stained, grimy bathtub, scattering in every direction, their little claws scraping on the decaying porcelain. Cockroaches, dark and shiny, scurried across the filthy, cracked tiles, disappearing into cracks in the crumbling walls, a disgusting, moving carpet

He paused to look at the screen. "It’s a land shark, Cale," Elion said. "It needs four hours of exercise a day or it eats the drywall. We are not getting a Malinois." "Drywall is replaceable. Security is paramount." "We live in a quiet beach town. The biggest threat is a raccoon knocking over the trash." "Raccoons are vectors for rabies. A Malinois would neutralize the vector." Beady black eyes glinted in the fluorescent light. A rat. A huge one!
