Chapter 49: Wolf Boom! The fireball shot wide, hitting a tree instead, igniting it instantly. The adrenaline was still pumping through me, my knees pressed into the cold, damp earth. I’d just frozen a lava demon with powers I barely understood—and still, it wasn’t over. I felt it in the air, like the tension before a lightning strike. Something worse was coming. The half-wolf demon, though wounded, snarled and lunged at me again, faster this time. There was no time to react.

Jayce whispered, “And we burned.” BOOK ONE COMES TO AN END

Give in. I closed my eyes and felt him deep inside me. I felt him clawing away in there, and I let go, dropping whatever barrier was holding him back. A ring of fire spread across my eyes. My entire body was a light yellow fire with bright orange and red tips. Wings erupted from my shoulder blades, spreading wide beside me. They were covered in orange and deep red flames. Every step I took turned the sand on the shore into glass.

Next, the wings of the book were burning, but it didn't stop as it tried to still get away. “If only I hadn't given up my fire powers—it’s going to get away; she will get away!” Ruby yelled, and it was true as the book kept trying, then Blake and Dante finally got to her, and holding their hands, they opened their mouths, and fire came out of them, shooting straight to the book. I could hear the screams of my mother and other creatures; my head was spinning, and I couldn't take it anymore. I was about to fall to the ground, but someone held me back. I looked up and was shocked to see my wife smiling at me.

But when he looked up, hundreds of other books were lifting and floating from the shelves, their pages bleeding and whispering her name. “Camela. Camela. Camela.” Her head spun, and her chest rose and fell heavily. “They want me…” Vincent held her tightly against him, his flame blazing so bright enough it illuminated the shelves like daylight. “Then they’ll have to burn for it,” he said. He swung his arm through the air, sending fire in a blazing arc that struck the shelves. The books shrieked, blood hissed, and their pages curled black, turning ash.
