The city felt as if it was midnight in the middle of the day. The roars of the beasts were deafening as they swooped down grabbing anyone who was unfortunate enough to be on the streets. People screamed in agony as their loved ones and children were taken never to be seen again. Celestial Falls had been a quiet place to live before the portal opened and the creatures arrived. One day they were happily going on with their lives and in an instant, they were living in a city of fire and blood.

Bruno received several calls from people who knew he was taking flight that day. What Enola was telling him about every disappointment becoming a blessing became so clear to him. He knew he didn't deserve to escape that crash, those that were victims, he wasn't better than they were. He could feel the sweat beading on his forehead as he drew close, the sting of the saltwater in his eyes as the droplets caught in his eyelashes on their passage down to his cheeks. “There is no pain,” she was as shocked by the development as he was. “The flames do not burn me.” He reached out carefully but could not touch the flames. They burnt as hot as dragon flame. “They do not burn me, but I can feel their heat,” he told her. “Flaming wings… That was… not what I expected.” “Me either,” she looked at him wild-eyed. “Do you suppose that I could…” “Yes,” he followed her gaze when she looked skywards. “Do it, Ember.”

"I would never let you die." Hope whispered to me. Then she let go of me and stood beside me with a corner smile, confident, she made a simple motion with her hand and that reddish shape spread further, like wings, but not just any wings, they were Dragon wings. As the wings passed through the shadows and places a bluish flame appeared and began to burn everything that wasn't solid. I could tell the shadows were writhing and screaming, they were screams of agony as they were consumed, the runes of protection disappeared and the magic that was in the place dissipated, but these flames didn't hit us, it was as if the people who were with me were immune to them.

I can see the faint outline of what looks like wings spread behind her. Wings of fire that seem to take the shape of a heart… A piercing scream rips through the air as her power increases tenfold and surges into the sky, emanating in waves around her. I see the swirls of the flames behind her move before I see a tiny part of her left wing snap and shrivel into embers of ash. It’s too blinding to look at, and I’m forced to avert my gaze.

My body becomes enveloped in a burst of flames, and the fire spreads from my skin and causes an expulsion as soon as it got close to the gas tank across the room. THE END.
