Lyra was having a good time, although there weren't many women in the group, and that made many of the male rebels try to conquer Lyra. She simply rejected them politely and then continued to celebrate, which made her feel safe. In the midst of the celebration, in the forest, a rebel kept running, wanting to reach the base as quickly as possible. His abdominal pain made him think very bad things, so he needed help as soon as possible. He appeared in the middle of the celebration unexpectedly, claiming that the war had begun. Everyone was scared, but then they went to help him and ask him what had happened.

Mane had just employed one of those many moves: Exploding Wings. Mane’s mumble was the trigger for the huge fiery wings that grew on his back. The wings were several dozens of meters long and several meters wide. When they appeared on Mane’s back they rose high into the sky, and flapped rapidly. Yet their beating didn’t lift Mane up or take him into the sky. With the beating of those wings, the cry of a Phoenix filled the ears of all who were here, and several large flames descended upon the retreating goblins, burning them all to a crisp. The fire was stronger, completely eliminating the goblins in less than a second.

Her wings fell back into her body, screaming. Covering my mouth, a sob wrecked through me. I had forgotten she would feel the pain, too. Too worried about watching Mortus breathe his last breaths. The warrior, his eyes solemn with pity, gently gathered her in his arms, picked her up. Her head leaned into his chest, gripping his uniform. “Leave me,” she cried again. Wings sprung forth from his body, shaking his head. His wings hummed in the pattern of a hummingbird and took flight to the palace.

I should have run. She laughs, short and hard. “Oh, the look on your face! You all assume the same thing. No wings, but enough like the dragons to make us illusionists. The qualifications for becoming one of those monster’s soldiers, a hunter. That was the first word that popped into your head, wasn’t it?” She takes a step forward and my wings quiver with the urge to jump back. But hunters have ways to keep those with wings grounded. “Well, you’d be half right.” Her grin grows. “What do you mean?” I ask, my voice a pathetic squeak. “Half right?”

She looked at him. He shook his head. “Creatures of the Nemach metropolis, the place of air. I am not like them,” he sounded scornful, “My humiliation included these wings that would force me to take to the air. Anyway, there was a war. A terrible war.” Ilyria wanted to ask him more about the wings, his punishment, but she also needed to learn about the First War. She allowed him to deflect her attention. “Between the metropolises?”

“It’s okay. She is free to kill me. I don’t care. I just want her.” Nevea noticed the warmth his eyes emitted while talking about her. But it didn’t last long as it changed to display his sorrow. Her heart bled at his sorry state. “Your wings, Zach. I want it.” For a second, Nevea’s mind went blank. Wings. So the dream and the wings she had seen were real. “Does it mean everything I saw was real?” She mumbled. At this point, she couldn’t differentiate which one was real and which one was fake.
