The wind had died down, but the snow still fell, gentle, quiet, like ash drifting from the sky. Most of the pack grounds had gone to sleep, chimneys exhaling lazy smoke trails into the night, the faint golden flicker of firelight dancing behind a few windows. The hush of the storm beyond the wards felt distant, like another world.

I barely knew any of them. Once I reached the door, I threw it open to a storm on the other side. The calmness of the morning had broken. Erupted. Rain poured down in sheets. The wind nearly blew the door shut again. I gritted my teeth and walked out. Clicked the button on the keys so that the Firebird would open. By the time I was inside the car, I was a shivering mess. Wrapped my arms tightly around myself to try and stave off the cold. Nothing worked. Not even turning the ignition and putting on the heater. It was as if my world had been bathed in ice.

Spring’s POV: The cheap wine I had chugged in the kitchen had finally worn off. ​I was dragged from the sleep by a rough sudden motion. ​Someone was shaking me. ​"Wake up," a voice hissed. ​My eyes snapped open. Standing right beside my bed, leaning over me with her hands gripping my uninjured shoulder was Winter. ​I recoiled instantly, scooting backward against the headboard. I gasped, clutching my sling instinctively. ​"What are you doing in my room?"

Three months later Camila I hurried from the bed to the window. “It’s snowing.” “It does that in the winter, beautiful.” A blanket of white coated the world beyond our window as large flakes filtered down from the clouds above. “It makes me think of skiing.” Dante pulled back the blankets and patted the mattress. “It makes me think of cold. Come back to bed and let me warm you.” Doing as he said, I walked back to the bed and crawled under the blankets. With a push of a button on the remote, Dante brought the fireplace to life.

The pain shot straight through her nerves, tears spilling down her face as her body trembled violently. While they were switching places, she gathered what little strength she had left, shoved one of them away, and stumbled to her feet. She ran blindly toward the exit, but her heel caught on the carpet. She fell forward, crashing into a towering champagne display. The glasses shattered with a deafening crash, and the entire room went silent. Red wine and blood mixed on her dress as she lay among the shards. “Miss Winters, is this some kind of pity act?” Susie’s mocking voice cut through the murmurs as she walked over.
