The moon hangs so close you can almost feel her heartbeat. The snow glitters with stardust, and the air hums with old magic. It’s the one night the wolves of Frostvale say they can hear the Moon Goddess breathe.”

Erebus places a chaste kiss on my lips and the crowd cheers louder. Stepping to the podium, Erebus raises his hand, and the cloud instantly quiets down. “I want to welcome everyone to the three hundred and forty second Winter Solstice Ball,” a round of applause fills the ballroom. Erebus raises his hand once again and the ballroom quiets down.

She cradles our hands as she chants a blessing and protection spell. “Smoke of air and fire of earth, protect and bless the unborn bairn. Power of love, friendship, and light, guard the parents through the night. Shield their wolves from harm and fear, let their hearts be filled with cheer. As I speak, so mote it be. Merry part and blessed be.” We thank the wolf-witch, grateful for the small favor she granted us.

They stood in a circle, facing the rising sun, and began to chant a beautiful hymn: "Oh, moon goddess, hear our prayer, Guide us through the day with care, Bless us with your gentle light, And keep us safe throughout the night.
