It's slavering jaws hung open and its razor-sharp teeth were bared, as it advanced towards her with its blood-red eyes, ablaze with undisguised hunger. It occurred to Merlin that werewolves didn't normally have red eyes, something was wrong with these werewolves and the more she thought about it, the more convinced she became. The werewolves were not rogues, they were under a powerful spell and instinctively, she knew that only another witch could cast such a spell. The only witch that had been capable of such a feat, was Aunt May, but Merlin knew that she was dead, which meant that there was another and for some reason, this thought filled her with a feeling of growing disquiet.

"It's your promise, Sevina... You must never break it." The words from the late Queen hovered in her head as Queen Sevina mused about her decisions. She had given her word to the previous King and Queen and it was a rule among the witches to always live up to their promise. If she did one thing that would betray them, she would lose her immortality and her freedom... she would be sent back to Mysticia and will no longer be given the chance to see the humans again. It was one thing she didn't want to ever happen, and that was why she took the risk and agreed to everything.

Each witch glanced at each other with panic written on their faces. "Quickly! We have to leave through the back door!" Merga yelled to the others; she picked up her bag, placing it on her shoulder. Looking up, she saw the one who rode violently. Quickly, Merga ran through the back door as the other witches ordered her to run faster. They got out of the house and ran deeper into the woods, each hand in the other. The soldiers barged into the house with full force; they searched the whole house but didn't find a soul.

"I'm sixteen years old, Cole. I found out I was a witch less than a week ago. My mother has spent my entire life hiding this from me, moving us from town to town every time her latest boyfriend gets too handsy. I've never had friends, never had stability, never had anything that was mine. And then we move to this creepy town, and I find out I have power—real power—and I just wanted something to go right for once." The words tumbled out faster than I could stop them, and to my horror, I felt tears burning at the corners of my eyes. I turned away, furiously blinking them back. Queens don't cry, especially not in front of guys who already think they're disasters. The room fell silent except for

Mama Mariah and the other witches who were with Elowyn started, scared but she motioned for them to not be afraid. The moment three witches grabbed Elowyn, their confidence cracked. Her hands snapped up and clamped around the wrists of two unlucky ones. A wet, sizzling sound filled the chamber. Acid poured down their arms like molten rain. The women screamed-raw, piercing, helpless. The RuthValis witches finally leaned back with quiet, knowing smiles.

He pleaded, the strength he had been using to hold himself tall faltering, feeling the witch's power, knowing if she willed it he could be torn apart with a thought from her. "She will be safe. We have planned for this." She assured him, as he saw a glow erupt from within each of the women as they stalked out onto the dark and broken ski hill. Before the bird woman went too far she turned around, "Just one question, we found six dead wolves at the original crime scene, yours?" She asked. Alexander nodded, a bit dumbfounded the witches had time to investigate at the school, and get here minutes after Alexander had. "Sorry for your loss, they didn't stand a chance against Valentina." Then she

From their appearances, Lyla could tell that the two girls were also witches. "You know your family's reputation among us, don't you? A troublesome family who is under the supervision of the Witch Council," said another---the girl with a round face. "So what?" asked Lyla as she's challenging the sharp gaze of the two girls. "I'm Deborah Coffey. I'm the head of the Witch class. And she's Sarah Litcher, my second-in-command. We want to make sure your troublemaker genetic won't make problem here." Lyla hissed at Deborah's words.

ZANA’S POV The first thing I noticed about the academy was the silence. Not the peaceful kind. No—this was the heavy, suffocating silence of people watching. The chains on my wrists clinked with every step as the guards dragged me through the massive iron gates of Prescot Academy. My head was held high, but my body ached from the journey, and my throat was raw from holding back the howl clawing its way up my chest. Dozens of students were gathered at entrance of the school, just mingling and talking. Their uniforms glowed white and gold under the sun. They smelled of power—pure-blood wolves, witches with magic in their veins, vampires with sweet scents. The elite.

We’re now at Midnight Academy, in the headmaster’s office and Rivers has just given Dad his unwanted opinion on how I should be in school, or he was, until three other Alphas and two witches, had shown up. There is Flint from the council and two other Alphas I don’t recognise. From the witches there is Magdalene and that weird quiet Sephora, she’s the youngest and I don’t really like her. I know Raihana gets so fucking mad at her. Now that the formalities are done, Rivers clears his throat. “As I was saying about attendance-” “Really? We have more pressing matters to tend to and you think her attendance is important!” Magdalene snaps.
