Rhayden had put us in a god-damned kill box. As if he had read my mind, Rhayden replied from behind me. “Relax Mars, they are not getting in. Wolfsbane.” Wolfsbane only stopped a lycan for so long. It was near fatal to them in werewolf form, but the human side of them, it was merely an irritant. I rolled my eyes and turned back to Rhayden as he held up a knife. Infused with silver, he grinned and stepped forward. “Your favorite weapon.”

But instead of old stories from my grandmother’s life, the pages were scrawled with strange symbols and sketches—shorthand in her handwriting explaining the purpose of different runes and sigils. Flipping through the pages, there were sketches of wolves, and the last page that she’d written in had a detailed rendition of a nightmarish wolf-beast that made my blood run cold at the sight of it, it’s eyes smudged over with charcoal in the shape of a protective rune. My heart raced when I realized what I was holding. This was no ordinary journal, it was a spell book.

“I may be able to get something to do the trick.” I said carefully. Our conversation had just become very very dangerous. What I was currently peddling was highly prohibited in the packlands. Wolfsbane was far too potent a poison. With a few tea spoons of the powder having the potency to kill a wolf. A single tea spoon is enough to prevent shifting, that was a state that no wolf would want. Being unable to shift was like loosing your arm or worse. You lost an instinctual ability that you had for half of your life- or at least the parts that mattered.

It was like someone was blocking her from mind linking anyone. And that was when she smelt it. Wolfs bane. That explains why she can’t mind link. Wolfs bane is also known as wolf’s poison. Apart from silver, another dangerous thing to werewolves is the wolfs bane. When a werewolf is close to wolfs bane, it disturbs the system. The werewolf won’t be able to mind link just like the way Tory is feeling right now. And if a werewolf stay close to wolfs bane for long, he or she might lose his or her wolf and might eventually die.

I asked. He shook his head. "I don't remember everything. I only remember… Blurry fragments. And a herb called Wolfsbane. Thinking about it makes my head hurt." I looked it up. Wolfsbane was the kind of herb that werewolves feared the most. Just touching it was enough to cause pain and even get poisoned. I panicked a little and warned him, "If you ever see that herb, avoid it. Don't touch it." He nodded but did not say more.

He has a faint scent of Wolfsbane in him that they can smell even when he’s afar. Wolfsbane is a herb that is considered poisonous to werewolves and can greatly weaken them and even cause death if consumed in big quantities. If a wolf is weak, he can faint with just a small scent from the herb. But the strong Alpha like Brett, Adam and Chandler had to in take the herb in order for them to be weakened. It does not mean that they are completely immune to this. In fact, smelling the herbs made them irritated, which probably the reason why Brett almost fell in argument with Adler.

A twig cracked beneath my boot, and before I could react, arms seized me from behind. A hand clamped over my mouth, silencing my gasp. Damn it! I thrashed, but the grip was like iron. One. Two. Three wolves. Their eyes glowed in the darkness—golden and merciless. "Thought you could sneak in, little witch?" one of them sneered, yanking my arms behind me. I tried to summon magic, but the moment I reached for it, a sharp pain flared through my skull. Wolfsbane. It was laced into the cloth they used to bind my wrists.

I whispered, closing my eyes briefly as tears of relief welled up. But then his expression turned serious. “Lily, you were exposed to Wolfsbane,” he said. I frowned, confused. “Wolfsbane? What’s that?” The doctor sat down in the chair Mer had vacated and explained, “Wolfsbane is a plant that’s highly poisonous to werewolves. Even the smallest amount can be deadly if ingested or absorbed into the skin.” My eyes widened. “But… I’m human,” I said, trying to piece everything together.

That would make things a whole lot easier… “Wyntor is spelt with a Y…like my last name…and I was born at dawn” she said quietly. “Oh.” Damn. “Okay…so you’ll bear the enemy’s blight…that’s obviously the healing poison thing, and then making the wolves you heal immune to the venom maybe? You’ll bring an end to them if you stay in the light…but if you fall to the darkness, you’ll become the wolfsbane? I wonder what that means…falling to darkness?” She looked at me thoughtfully.
