He snapped a picture of the page before holding the screen in front of me. Well… Fuck a duck. The first sentence appeared perfectly clear in the photograph. The second wasn’t a sentence at all. It looked exactly the way he’d described it. Ancient symbols covered the bottom half of the page, completely unreadable. I blinked several times before lowering the phone. Then I looked back at the journal lying open in front of me. To my eyes… The second line was still perfectly readable. Word for word. Trust no crown. Trust the man willing to lose it.

I’m about to say something about it when something at the top catches my attention. “Household Accounts–– R.T.” And it goes on, multiple initials, multiple names with what seems like codes beside the names or initials, or whatever the fuck I’m looking at. While my mouth hangs open as I try to comprehend it, the screen glitches once, I smack it because it’s an old model and this is how we work. When the screen steadies, nothing on my screen is intelligible. Every word, including the initials seems to have been flipped. This is not English.
