Writing A Fantasy Novel Novels & Stories

She put into words all she saw from the moving picture. But she did something else other than tell the truth. She wrote a character that resembled her in those stories. At least, even just in her novels, she would create friends that wanted her. At least, even just in her novels, she would be able to live the life she could never have lived in reality. At least, even if it's just in her novels, she wouldn't be alone. Day and night she wrote and wrote until she filled pages and pages with words of truth. She wrote until there wasn't a fairy tale lie she couldn't expose anymore.

I laughed out loud at that one. Every girl’s fantasy novel was here, and it was here for me to revel in it. I could write stories upon stories of a place like this and not have to imagine one bit of scenery. My fingers itched to get back to a keyboard, but that was long gone. With my fingers tracing a dragon’s scales, I didn’t seem to mind.

I couldn’t wait to have her as my sister-in-law one day. I was over the moon to have the perfect boyfriend. He made every day the happiest day of my life. Whatever it may be, I am ready to embrace it wholeheartedly, to immerse myself in the depths of my imagination and let the words flow freely.

The words flowed effortlessly, transporting me far away from my worries and responsibilities. Time slipped away as I lost myself in the story. I flipped through the pages eagerly, savoring each sentence, each paragraph. It was a fantasy novel…one of those tales where magic and danger danced hand in hand, where heroes rose from the shadows to save kingdoms from darkness. The protagonist was fierce, brave, and clever…everything I wished I could be in moments of doubt. Her journey felt like my own in some strange way, as though I could see pieces of myself reflected in her struggles and triumphs.

The girl laughed again when remembering those ridiculous things. Lizzy really thought that the events that happened to her were too coincidental with the cutesy stories she had written and so she wanted to laugh. The fantasy romance that made her name and sold thousands of copies. High fantasy that led to her success as a young writer. "Have you read my novel all the way through?" she asked again, leaving Alaric even more confused. Alaric thought all the babbling was a Datura effect. "I haven't read any books," Alaric replied flatly.

Author’s Note If you stumbled upon this story and it piques your interest enough to read it, thank you so much. I wrote this story in 2024, but I have to revise the entire thing and do some tweaking. It isn’t that the story is inadequate, but the first version felt dissatisfactory. I opt for a story that has resonance instead of flowery prose and poetic metaphors. I mostly lean on writing contemporary books, and the idea of merging both fantasy (as a big reader of it) and magical realism in a modern setting sounds rather ambitious. My first urban fantasy novel, “Under The Eclipse: The Blood Moon,” will be a sort of creative literary thesis instead of experimentation. It’s not a perfectly pol
