"How am I even supposed to participate in a writing contest when I can't even update my story during the week? Besides do you think parents would even let me go to France by myself?"

I quickly scanned the papers—it was actually a solid idea. We were the ones to hold the workshop while they handled the contest afterward. The winners would have their work published by Arrow Publishing, with their names on it, and even a chance to be scouted as new writers. I looked at Lathan. “Have you seen this?” I asked. He shook his head. “I’m actually waiting for you. If you like it, I’ll sign it.” Kin and Enzo cleared their throats while Sierra covered her mouth to hide her laugh.

At the end of the online class session, we were to submit our masterpiece which would be reviewed by some editors and they would pick a winner whose book would be published in paperback and the writer would be given recognition. My online school has been holding a writing contest every year and my book has come third or second since I joined two years ago. That year was my final year and my last chance to win the contest which was why I put all my effort into it this year. "Rhea, I've told you about using your phone on the table. This is why you are using eye contact in the first place." My mom scolded. "Just to be clear, I love my eye contact, and I'm almost done," I said with my eyes still

There was no category in this year's competition but each school presented its best three for the writing event. The writing event has more sponsors than the whole game combined. Many oil firms and companies placed huge amounts on the essay competition and the judges are external judges from the different universities of the nation as selected by the competition organizers. The conference hall was filled up at 7:00 pm, 20 minutes before the debate and essay competition. Schools were seated in different areas of the hall, each very expectant and ready to support their students when the competition started properly. “There wouldn't be fear in me had it been we have Shola with us, just that he

How my brother used to protect me in school, and how we became friends. “Hey, there is a state competition for romantic story writers. Why don’t you take part, Aoife?” I inhaled a sharp breath because I had told no one I used to write stories. “No, I don’t have time for writing anymore. College, assignments, library, it’s exhausting. I think Matt is the right fit for any writing competition.” “But you are a wonderful writer. I read your stories, and it’s the best I’ve read so far,” she replied.

APRIL Excitement buzzed through me as I looked through my application one last time. Competitions were my favorite part of schooling, it had always been so since I was a toddler and nothing changed up till now. We didn’t have much competitions at Enigma, but the few we had were always bloody, students would go to any length to win and one couldn’t blame them because the school always put up pretty amazing cash prizes to be won. This time around, we were gearing up for the Jaw Wars, an annual oratory competition where the winner went home with a ten thousand dollar cash prize, an all expense paid summer trip, and free tutoring sessions.

She couldn't spend the rest of the year listening to a chorus of kissing sounds whenever she walked into a room. "It'd be easy. We can start by printing up some flyers on the school's printer," Charlie said. "Where would we have people send the poems?" Mary asked. "It'll look kind of strange if it's one of our houses, won't it?" "We can use my cousin's!" Jonas said. "She lives in Washington, D.C. That'll make it look real official. The National Poetry Writing Contest, in the nation's capital." "And then you'll tell Lucy?" Emily asked. She sounded uncomfortable, even disgusted by the idea. "That it's all just a prank? A joke? When it's all over?"

I’m about to say goodbye and make my escape when she speaks again. “There’s a huge Fine Arts Competition coming up in London in three months’ time. The winner gets to have their work published in a huge editorial magazine and they also get to have a gallery exhibition with published works of their choice. Are you interested?” For a moment, I’m stunned speechless. It’s a huge opportunity that anyone would kill for. Not many people get to have these kinds of opportunities this early. “You’re asking me to participate?” I ask in disbelief. She shrugs. “Why not? Usually, I reserve this for the seniors but I think I’ll make an exception this year. So? What do you think?”

the caller said. I was stunned for a moment when I heard his voice because it was Oliver. How did he know my—oh yeah, probably because of Matthew. I immediately stood up. "Yes, speaking," I replied. "I just wanted to ask if you've started writing," he asked in a monotone but polite voice. "Actually, I haven't," I honestly answered. Please end the call. I was pacing back and forth in my small living room. "Please do start writing now because we have already decided to enter your work, Mr. Wright, into a competition that will happen in three weeks from now." Say what? I stopped walking, a competition?
