“Let’s see what the dead left behind.” I push it open. The room beyond is colder, darker. A hidden library—forgotten, sacred. Shelves line the walls, wrapped in iron chains, as if even the knowledge here needs restraint. At the center stands a stone pedestal. Upon it lies a book, open and ancient, its ink faded to rust and shadow. Sonia steps forward first, eyes wide. “This wasn’t meant to be found.” Behind the pedestal, carved deep into the wall, are words that make the hair rise on my neck:
