I twisted with the motion, wrenching his wrist past its natural angle and driving my elbow into the soft hollow beneath his ribs. He gasped, air forced violently from his lungs, and folded. The third man swore and lunged, anger replacing coordination. I sidestepped, hooked my foot behind his ankle, and shoved his shoulder forward. He hit the pavement hard, the sound sharp and final. It was over in seconds.

Jake's grip shattered, his control slipping through his fingers as he toppled over, betrayed by his own stance. As Jake crumbled, his discomfort palpable, Lily sprang into her next move. Her precision was unwavering as she targeted a vulnerable point between Jake's thumb and index finger. Her thumb pressed with exacting force, eliciting a wince of pain from him, momentarily disorienting his focus.

This was evident in the number of swear words that came out of his mouth every time he had to stop what he was doing and roll his dice. "You are quite the sly one." I winced as he pressed down. "You broke his nose," Fenris said. "I think I shattered it," I admitted, my voice dropping to a whisper. A long beat of silence passed between us. The faint sound of water dripping from the iron valve into the basin echoed off the stone walls. "Next time you hit a man," Fenris instructed, his tone completely practical, "make sure your thumb is tucked on the outside of your fingers, not resting across the top joint. You nearly dislocated your own knuckle."

Casper followed that up with a quick rising uppercut. Taking the opening and using the tree to his advantage, he back flipped onto the tree and pushed off towards Casper. The maneuver sent him front flipping towards Casper and just before he reached the him, Thane flattened his body out, feet first. Instead of colliding with his adversary though, Thane opted to wrap his feet around Casper’s neck instead. The maneuver caught Casperoff guard as he was recovering his wits, once again. Thane gave him an apologetic shrug, mid air. As if to say, “sorry” for what was going to come next.

Just one wrong movement, and I’d go tumbling down. “Stay calm,” I whispered to myself, taking a shaky breath as I tried to push through the pain. With gritted teeth, I forced my fingers to wrap around the joystick one last time, even though it felt like my hand was being crushed in a vice. I managed to push forward just enough to stop the backward slide, and I gripped the armrests, breathing heavily as I waited for the worst of the pain to pass.
