The pack knew. They always did. By the time Carolina reached the edge of the clearing near the main pack house, whispers were already spreading like wildfire. “She shifted last night.” “Did you feel that energy?” “Xander shifted too—at the same time—” Carolina froze. At the same time. Her stomach twisted. Xander stood at the center of it all. Of course he did. Future Alpha. He didn’t blend into a crowd—he commanded it. It was mostly Lycans in attendance, but there were a handful of werewolves as well. His men answered back all of them in various stages of their shift. I tried not to falter, fear of being trampled strong. Xaden turned back to face the forest, howled once, the sound penetrating the evening air, and then he shot forward on all fours. All around me, shifters turned, darting with speed to catch up with their Alpha after they completed their shift.

Xander said standing to his feet before he spun his siphon around him and pointing it at me. What looked like lightning shot out aiming right for me, I held my arm up with my siphon in front blocking whatever that was. I could still feel the sting of it and I realized he was trying to shock me. We both ran at each other not slowing down. I spun on my heels, turned my siphon sideways just in time for it to collide with his side flinging him across the forest closer to the house. “Ow damnit. Alright I get it.” Xander said holding his arm in the air as he laid flat on his back. I didn’t even realize I was out of breath until I looked at him. “Let’s hope Kia and Sage heal us before we go home.”

Hutton's POV Today was a sad one for me. I was just so angry after what I found out today in school. It was a painful one, and it hurt more to know clearly that there was just nothing I could do. Xander is just a devil reincarnated, a cold-hearted and ruthless boy who I wish I could kill. I badly wish I could slit his throat and hang him in the middle of the market.
