Xander stepped out of the shadows like he’d been waiting there all along.
“We need to talk,” Xander said.
Zade stopped walking.
“About what?” he asked, already knowing.
Xander’s jaw tightened. “Don’t do that.”
“Do what?”
“Pretend this isn’t happening.”
Zade let out a slow breath, exhaustion seeping into his bones. “This is the only way it works.”
Xander closed the distance between them in three strides, stopping just short of touching him. The air shifted instantly, thick with Alpha pressure. Zade’s instincts flared, responding despite his effort to remain steady.
