Voice so familiar drawl. My eyes pry open, slowly. The harsh light is gone; the curtains are drawn, leaving the room dim. And then standing before me is Xaden. He’s wearing nothing but low-hanging pants, his bare chest on display, muscles flexing with every subtle movement. For a split second, my mind betrays me... He almost looks like Damon. I grit my jaw so hard I can hear a sound. “What do you want, Xaden?” I spit, my voice edged with venom.

REID The events of the day replay in my dreams all night like a horror movie that I can’t turn off. I’m back on that ridge, watching as Xavier staggers toward Gray, lunging in a last desperate attempt to fight him off. I see Gray tear out his throat again, hear the gurgling sound as Xavier struggles for air, blood spurting from the gaping wound in his neck and staining the snow. This time, though, when I go to turn away, something gives me pause. I look back to see Xavier rise again, still bleeding from the neck but still very much alive. Everyone else has their backs turned, and I open my mouth to warn them, but no sound comes out…

The shift energy was still glowing at my fingertips. I felt like I could break the trees with my bare hands. A branch fell beside me. I turned around, my wolf claws already pushed out. Damon was at the other end of the woods. He wore only loose pants. His chest was bare, and his muscles were tight. His eyes glowed in the dark as they moved over my naked body. “You should not be here,” he said, his voice low and rough at first as he stared at me. But he did not order me back. Instead he stepped closer. His scent filled my nose. It was war smelling the mate bond.

“She’s seeing Marle as well as hearing her voice attempting to manipulate her into doubting her bond with Creed. The woman who has been appearing to her calls herself Arlen.” “Marlena,” Viktor elaborates. “I heard Father calling Marle that name when I was in Tiarin’s realm.” A growl of frustration reverberates through me. “So we were right with Cherie being her failsafe, but why would she want her to doubt Creed, though? Marle planned to resurrect Xamnir in my body. You’d think she’d want to do the same with Creed since he’s the Volkov Alpha.” I thought we had a handle on her plans. Was I wrong again?

Her touch was surprisingly gentle. “That’s what we’re all wondering. But I saw the way he looked at you when we arrived. Protective. Almost… peaceful. He doesn’t do peaceful, Aradia.” A knock interrupted us. The door opened before either of us could answer, and Xior filled the doorway. He’d changed into a black tunic that stretched across his broad chest, sleeves rolled up to reveal corded forearms marked with old scars. His dark eyes found me immediately, and something in my chest tightened. Not fear exactly. Something warme

Her whole body gave up to the pleasure she was receiving as her underwear soaked with her juicy liquid. Damien ripped her undies off roughly, inserting his finger into her. Ariel let out a yelp of pain as tears sting at the corner of her eyes. "Shh," he said in a whisper, fingering her deeply, Ariel walls tightened around his finger as she slowly reacted to his moving hand, unconsciously rocking herself on his finger.

Fiona and I exchange looks when he shifts and dashes out. “What is it?” I ask when Fiona starts pacing. She must be picking up and making sense of the howls. “I don’t know. The howls. They are specific. Rogues and death…” she says, and starts hyperventilating. I rush to her like a caring friend. “Fiona, are you okay?” “They…they are specific…” she halts. “It is a royal…an heir…Xaden,” she shakes her head, refusing to believe what is very clear in my mind.
