“Do you want to come along?” I freeze. This is unexpected. Suspiciously unexpected. “Why? Are you suddenly feeling guilty, Mr. Graham?” “Do I have any reason to?” he asks, voice steady, unbothered, like he’s discussing stock prices. Diana’s POV I spend half the day in my room, buried in the new fantasy book I’ve been obsessing over. Honestly, the book is the only reason I haven’t overthought my entire existence in this house. That, and the free Wi-Fi that is probably fast enough to power a small country.

I sat back on my heels, looking up at him as he held the book out to me. "You still crease the corners when you read," Xavier said softly. His voice was incredibly low, his grey eyes locked onto mine in the dim light of the bedroom. He pointed a single finger toward the top edge of the cover, where the top page corner was neatly folded down—a bad habit I’d had since elementary school because I could never find a proper bookmark. I froze, my fingers gripping the textbook as I took it back from him. A sudden, sharp squeeze hit the center of my chest. "You... you remember that?"

"Nope." "But how did you know that boy was Rex?" My face heats up, and I look away to calm myself. If Ares knew that, I know that when Rex and I get intimate, I see a mole on his buttocks, and he will hide from me. I knew Rex was the boy because of the mole. When he saved me, he and I spent time together. While changing out of his suit, I went to look for him and sneaked into the changing room, where I spotted him putting on his swimming trunks and accidentally saw his mole.

Doors start opening and students start pouring out of the classrooms they're setting up in. Xavier grabs my hands and starts running. I try to resist but he's stronger than me and keeps pulling me with him. I give up and follow him, hoping that Derrick is not at the end of wherever we're going to. Xavier leads me down to the library and opens a small room near it with a key. Of course he has keys to places in the school. Instead of a plush room with Arabic furniture and designs, the room is a supply closet. Xavier locks the door and turns on a lamp that illuminates the room. His dark eyes meet mine and I see the anger in them.

I appreciated her honesty, it felt unusual to receive any actual help from the members of the Bloodmoon pack. "Can I come in?" I asked but the door opened before I could do it myself. There he was, Xavier was standing before me. His expression is unreadable. His hair was done perfectly in a ponytail. I walked into his room. My attention was drawn to the short, wooden shelf filled with books. There was quiet in the room for a while. "I came to get answers," I said as my eyes shifted from the shelf to him. We were both standing nose to the door.

Hunter: The road in was long and dumb quiet, the kind of quiet that tells you everything worth knowing has gone to ground. I kept the bike under the trees and moved on foot, boots chewing at the moss. Xavier’s words looped in my head: Find her before he does. Short, sharp, no room for mistakes. “Beta, are you sure that coming here is the right option?” One of the gammas, Brian, asked. “Are you going to question the Alpha, Brian?” I asked, and he shook his head.

He traced his long slender fingers over the blank pages of the book and began to read. "To release a body from Tartarus...",he muttered as his eyes skimmed over the invisible words in the book. Layla watched him expectantly. A frown creased her brows when she heard him whisper... "Sacrifice..." Sacrifice? What did that have to do with saving Riven? "Xavier?",she called out tentatively. Xavier heaved a deep sigh and smiled at her again. "It's okay",he assured her. "I know how we can save Riven. Step back for a while"

My hand was still on the upper shelf holding the book tightly when he pulled the book out from my hands and interwide his fingers with mine from the back as he nuzzled his head on my shoulder, "What do you think you're doing Xavier?" ________ What is Xavier trying to do ?? Now he’ll have to stand out here looking ridiculous. He adjusted his wig and leaned against the store, ready to get out of the whole get-up immediately. The book remained in his hand. Knowing that Xavier had written it, made the book the most valuable item of the day. He considered it a rulebook of sorts. This is the game. He opened it and flipped through more pages, scanning more of this sick man’s words on every line. How do he beat him at his game? What did he want him to know and why?

At first, he wasn’t sure that the painful walk down memory lane had been worth it. But as he flipped to the book’s later entries, it became clear that even if it didn’t shed light on his investigation into her death, the contents were nonetheless enlightening. “There was trouble in paradise,” Xavier muttered. “And it started long before anyone died.”
