Zero With Slash Through It Novels & Stories

He brought the nib down. The moment the gold metal touched the paper a loud sound exploded in Elara's head. A wave of static erupted from the ledger. It rippled outward across the mud on the highway shoulder. Where the wave touched the raindrops, they didn't break. They turned into strings of letters and numbers that quickly disappeared. ERASE: VANCE_E_0529.

I sat on the sofa and watched them. "A." Introduction by Wright. There are five drawings on the paper and the only clue is things. Reid nodded and cut the 'S'. "E.," said Eugene. Reid cut the 'U'. "'Don't just guess, you're always wrong, eh," Wright said angrily to Eugene. "You too," Eugene said back. "Come on," Reid said laughingly. He was unaware of the tension around him. "First to score three points." You have to start with vowels for it to be easy. I don't have any plan o participate, my honour depends on it.

Along with Zero a special team was selected to work as a force that would focus on Kali. "The name isn't there, it's just the alias... Zero. It says." Jay spoke. "Did you even hear what I said?" Jay asked and Maya looked at him, her cheeks bulging out and the crumbs of the cookies splattered all over her mouth. She nodded and hummed as she chewed making the crunching noises and Jay sighed as he placed the file down. Maya leaned forward to look at the gray slim file and picked it up after wiping her hands on her sweater. Pushing the thick cover aside she read the word printed on the single white paper with block capital letters.

"You are a Legacy-App running on a system that has already migrated to the Cloud. And today, we are going to Force-Quit the North" The Ziggurat lashed out, and a beam of Absolute Clinical Logic hit my chest. It didn't burn; it Erased. I felt my "Too Much" energy being compressed into "Null-Values." My rage was being turned into "Error-Logs"; my grief was being turned into "Cache-Files". "Hope, the starlight... it’s Turning to Static!"

The screen didn't go black. But the green phosphor text vanished instantly, replaced by a single, clean window of high-contrast white that had no directory trees, no file paths, and no signatures from 2001. A single line of text ran across the center of the display, the letters large, sharp, and perfectly legible under the crimson glare of the ceiling light: LOCAL CORE ZEROED. TERMINAL PURGED. Sophia stopped by the landing. Her face didn't break into an expression of anger, but her hands tightened inside her pockets until the gray wool of her trench coat tore at the seam with a short, sharp rip that sounded like a dry branch snapping in the wind.

The crib was empty, and everything was gone. Even our wedding portrait had been taken down. The room held nothing of mine except the faint trace of my scent still lingering on the pillow. Every sign that I had ever existed in this house had been erased. I had been desperate enough to wipe away every last trace, to leave him with nothing to hold onto. Jasper slid down the side of the bed and crumpled onto the floor, clutching the pillow to his chest. His shoulders shook violently, and a single hot tear rolled down his face.

With homemade apple pie and vanilla ice cream for dessert. Thankfully there was no sign of bozo the entire evening. Felix and Alexa wasted no time going back to 'their' room, and having some alone time. I wouldn't be surprised if my sister is marked and turned tomorrow, her first shift would be this weekend under the full moon. I wanted to text her and ask her how her room was, and if she was going to let him mark her tonight. Sadly I lost my phone the night Lane tried to kill me, I'm guessing he took it. So without my phone I'm now stuck in Zanes room with him, and I could cut the awkwardness with a knife.

It was neatly arranged in the bowl that sat on my computer desk. It was boring, but I scanned through old images to find the specific one, for his sake. "Found you." I beamed victorious as soon as I spotted the image. I scooped a spoonful of mixed fruit into my mouth, using a silver spoon. "Shit." I cussed, palming my face in my hand. I had accidentally hit the delete button rather than share it. "Ugh." I groaned, realizing I had to check my cloud for back up. Every image I had ever had was backed up to the cloud.

Time to end this one way or another. ***
