The campsite suddenly filled with a repugnant smell, like rotting flesh. Nathan leaped forward just as the creatures burst from the shadows. They were tall and bulky, twice the height of Nathan, with dangling arms, wide hands, thin bony fingers, vicious claws, and protruded fangs shining with poison. It was like seeing a vampire experience death over and over again, unwilling to die. I stared in horror, a blood lust and anger evident in their faces. I lost my balance, collapsing in panic. Everything became a bur. Junto was flung aside by one of the beast's pale hands. Then it dove after the Shape Shifter with jaws the size of a bear trap.

"Dr. York will keep me safe. Right, Dr. York?" Cassian completely ignored her. His eyes remained fixed on Roy. Roy's head had swiveled back to the front. His body was unusually stiff as he hobbled along under the moonlight, looking rather freakish and disturbing. Cassian was rather confused. They began to shout.

I rebuke. Her eyes grey bright orange with my remark, and I swear just for a moment her nails grew longer and horns began to form on either side of her head. But she seemed to calm herself and her body returned to its normal state as of nothing had happened. She stood eyes closed breathing deeply. When she opened them again, her brown eyes stared back at me. “Tormund?” She called to her bodyguard, her eyes never leaving my face. No other words were spoken between them, it was as if their conversation was spoken telepathically. He stalked forwards, not stopping to look at Angelique, his eyes were set on me. I stumble backwards, my back hit against a hard, cold surface. He was getting nearer.

Munch… Crunch… Suddenly, a chewing sound came from around the corner. Julian was stunned and poked half his head out to look. By the elevator, a zombie in a torn Armani suit was crouched on the floor, gnawing on a corpse that had long since become unrecognizable. As if it had smelled fear coming off a living person, the suited zombie suddenly went still. It slowly turned its head. Its cloudy, pale eyes locked onto Julian. A long, dark red piece of intestine was still hanging from the corner of its torn mouth.

I immediately exchanged points for several cages made from a special reinforced material. After unlocking them, I positioned the cages directly behind the gate, then stood there myself as bait. The moment the zombies spotted me, they immediately charged straight toward the gate. And the second they rushed into the cages, I slammed the metal doors shut behind them. Just like that, the zombies became my property. I locked them all inside massive wheel-shaped cages and hung rotting flesh at the front. Driven by the scent of the meat, the zombies would mindlessly keep running forward nonstop.

Yet, he dropped into a swift side roll, grabbed a steel pipe, and smashed it hard. He might have been the team's weakest link, but he was still miles better than Esmeralda. I tuned him out and focused only on mowing down the horde of zombies that kept pouring in. Noah, however, looked like a different person. He weaved through the horde with quick, precise strikes. When the last zombie dropped dead, only our ragged breathing remained in the lab. Fortunately, we had stocked up on ammunition and weapons before setting out, and we were in better shape than before. That was the only reason we made it out unscathed.
