But escaping the man who controls her fate and the pack that doesn’t understand her pain will be no easy task. With a shattered heart and no allies, Lillian must find the courage to break free and reclaim her life. Will Lillian rise above the betrayals, or will she remain a shadow of the woman she was meant to be?
더 보기Lillian’s POV
I am Lilian Harrington-Edwards, the first Omega to become a Luna. Unknown to everyone, my Cinderella-like story is nothing but an illusion.
I am a fatherless child who comes from an unknown family whose surname is untraceable. From the start, my life has been a tragedy.
And as if my misery isn't enough, I become the third party in my own marriage.
My husband, Keegan Edwards, brings his first love, Sienna, home on our third wedding anniversary and even gifts her a bouquet of roses.
I watch from behind the kitchen window, a ghost in my own home, as they laugh like nothing has changed, like they are the ones who belong to each other.
She leans into him, looking up with those glistening eyes and an innocent, sweet smile.
“Thank you, Keegan,” she says, clutching the flowers. “These are my favourites!”
“You deserve it.” His voice is warm, nothing like the cold indifference he saves for me.
I smile bitterly. He never gives me flowers, much less knows what my favourite is. And yet, there he is—effortlessly making another woman feel loved.
Sienna laughs softly and rises on her toes, leaning against his cheeks.
My chest tightens as I feel my breath being suck out from my lungs as I watch in horror, doubtful if she was kissing him or just whispering sweet nothings.
Nonetheless, the smile they share after that makes my heart bleed.
This night is supposed to be ours. Today is our anniversary, and I spend my entire day preparing—arranging flowers, cooking his favourite dishes, setting the table like it actually means something. Like, I actually mean something.
But here I am, standing at the edge of their world, watching them like an outsider.
A hollow laugh escapes me as bitterness fills my heart.
Keegan is my mate, and we shared a heated night three years ago that led to our marriage; it’s all just that. Just a heat of the moment. A one-time thing. His wolf pushes him to mark me, and he has no choice but to get tied to me.
And since then, Keegan has rarely come home. And when he does, it’s late at night—just long enough to throw me a cold glance before locking himself in his study or falling asleep on the couch.
So when his assistant messaged me a week ago saying Keegan will be home tonight, and wants me to prepare lunch, no one can imagine my excitement.
I think… Maybe after three years, he will finally recognise me as his wife and be willing to celebrate our wedding anniversary. But it turns out that it was all my wishful thinking because he isn’t here for me, and I’m just a maid he needs to make this day perfect for Sienna’s arrival.
“Oh my gosh! Is that for me?” she gasps, pointing at the table I set with scented candles and a red wine.
My fist curls at my side, shaking with quiet rage as I watch her eyes sparkle and point at the table I set.
“Yes, of course.” My good husband replies and gestures for her to come inside, even pulling the chair for her.
Setting the flower on the table and sitting down, she looks up at him and squeezes his arm a little. “You are the sweetest.”
I press my hand on the kitchen counter as I watch them sit and clink their glasses, their eyes locked on each other while they sip the wine I chose, one among a dozen I tried last night just to make this dinner perfect.
Her every smile is like a dagger in my heart, and her every laugh pierces my ears. It seems like her happiness is built on my pain. But what did I expect?
I am the one with the ring, but in Keegan’s heart, I’ll always be the mistress who gets in between their love.
His heart will always belong to another woman.
So when she goes abroad, so does his heart…
And whenever Sienna’s in the picture, I am invisible.
Their laughter starts to get sickening, so I can no longer stomach it, so I take a step, ready to give them a piece of my mind, but Keegan’s words halt me, making me turn my head in their direction.
“Stay in here. You can live here. You’re always welcome to my home, Sienna.”
His home? HIS HOME? Did he forget that his home is OUR marital house?
Three years! We’ve been married for three long years, during which he has been mostly nonexistent. If more, it is more of my home alone.
“Are you sure? But I don’t want to intrude or anything,” she replies, looking so hesitantly, but the victorious smile hiding on her lips doesn’t escape my eyes.
Smiling, something he never shows me, he says in a comforting voice, “It’s the least I can do. Really.”
Scoffing, the boiling anger in my heart finally explodes, and I face them.
“And who gives you the right?” I ask in the voice I never once use on Keegan or anyone on this pack, my Luna voice.
Though I have lost my wolf the same night he marked me, I still have the basic things my identity gives me.
A furious smirk escapes my lips after a scoff. “This is OUR house. You don’t just get the right to bring a woman here and make her live with me.”
Keegan’s face turns dark while Sienna stands up protectively, goes to my side, and explains desperately, “Lillian, please don’t misunderstand. It’s not what you think it is.”
Acting all innocent, she furrows her brows and pouts her lips. “My house is still being renovated. I really don’t have anywhere else to stay.”
That is probably the lamest excuse I have ever heard, and my husband is either a fool or blind not to see it.
Crossing my arms, I shake my head. “In that case, you can stay in the pack house. There are a lot of rooms there. You can take your pick.”
“Enough!” Keegan slams his hands on the table, which shakes the tableware and subconsciously makes me flinch as I look at him in shock.
Facing him without fear and while masking my pain, I continue, “What? Are you mad? I let her substitute me in our anniversary celebration and eat the food I cook. Now, I’m even finding her a place to stay. Aren’t I being accommodating enough?”
He stands up and steps close to me, his dominance radiating. His blazing eyes stare me down, and his cold voice sends chills down my spine. “Know your place, Lillian.”
I scoff inwardly. My place?
Before marriage, I was the highest-ranking warrior, respected by everyone despite my humble origin. But for him, I let go of all of those. For him, I endure being cast aside and treated as a maid.
Isolated in our abandoned and cold marital house, I act more like a housekeeper than a Luna. I bet the pack has even forgotten my existence as a warrior and a Luna.
So, what is my place? A warrior that’s been forgotten? A Luna that’s an empty title? A wife who’s cast aside? A maid? A nanny?
In Keegan’s heart, I’ll say the last two are probably the places he wants to remind me of. A place he thinks I belong in.
My silence must have shown as obedience because he gestures to the stairs and orders, “Arrange a room for Sienna.”
Great! Now he even wants me to be her nanny as well.
Impatiently, he sits back down and gestures for Sienna to do the same. “Don’t mind her, Sienna. Let’s continue eating.”
I stand there and watch them eat so harmoniously. Keegan even helps her slice her steak, and that’s what hits me - the uncontrollable anger and sense of injustice.
Pursing my lips, I return to the kitchen and grab a set of utensils and tableware.
Their eyes meet mine when I arrive back at the dining table, and utter with a suffocating heart, “I didn’t spend all my time preparing for this meal… for nothing. If there’s someone who deserves to eat, it will be me.”
Keegan’s expression changes, but my heart is already too numb to care.
I head toward the other chair, but then she suddenly gasps, and things happen so quickly.
She leans forward, knocking her wine glass, which stains her dress, and she pushes the chair backwards, causing the plate I am carrying to knock on the back of her chair and shatter into pieces, with all the food scattering to the ground and the shards flying everywhere.
“Lillian! How can you push me like that? I already said I am sorry. I can leave now if that’s what you want,” she said in an almost crying voice with few tears streaming down her face.
I purse my lips to stop the gasps trying to escape my lips when I realise that a shard impaled my palm when the plate shattered in my hands.
“Lillian, can you be any more childish?” Keegan angrily remarks as he stands up, goes to our side, and worryingly hands Sienna a table napkin.
“I… I didn’t do anything–” My jaw drops in shock as I watch Sienna stand up, showing Keegan her stained dress.
“Look, Keegan. This is a new dress and I’m all sticky but…” She turns her eyes on me, looking all wronged. “But I understand why she’s so upset, so…”
She looks down, staying quiet at his side while clinging to his arm.
“Apologise, Lillian.”
I look at him in utter disbelief. “W-what?”
“I said, apologise!” Pointing at Sienna’s stained dress, he continued, “And wash her dress. There better not be a single dot of stain left in there.”
Those words completely kill every bit of patience and self-respect I have.
Pointing at myself with frustration, all while controlling the threatening tears on the corner of my eyes from streaming down my cheeks, I voice out through gritted teeth, “I am your wife, Keegan! I am your Luna and not your fucking maid.”
Throwing a glance at Sienna’s, I say with disdain, “And definitely not hers either.”
With cold, bearing eyes, he met my gaze. “A wife I never wanted to marry.”
I discreetly grimace in pain. The glass might have pierced my skin, but his words sure as hell pierce my soul.
“Making you my Luna is the one thing I’ll always be ashamed of!”
Lillian’s POV“This year's Warrior Selection Competition now officially… starts!” The host announces, and loud music plays in the background, accompanied by live drums. The open arena roars with excitement.Dust coils in the air with every stomp of a boot on the arena, and the sound of metal clashing in quick, sharp bursts creates a series of sounds that mimic music. On the side, the spectators shout out names and scores as the competition progresses.Making bets is also legal, and it adds energy among the crowds, making the wild cheers from the stands echo around the area, giving the contestant either a will to fight or humiliation that makes them want to dig a hole and hide. But all in all, the energy is electric, sparking through the arena like wildfire.Maddox and I, who are still on the waiting list, stand near the edge of the battling arena. Side by side, we start our stretching in sync and wait for our names to be called soon. And to my dismay, not far from us, with her arms f
Lillian’s POVI divert my eyes before Keegan can and cling my arm around Maddox, pulling her with me to the registration area as she is joining the competition as well. The ground of the Warrior Selection Event is held in the central park of the neighbouring city, and it is way more lively than we had expected.Vibrant banners ripple overhead, each bearing the badge of a different pack that has a representative in the competition.Countless tents line the perimeter of the central arena where the registration, medical support, vendors, and even recruiter stations are set up. From the crowded bleachers to the grassy commons, the entire place buzzes with energy. Weapons aside from guns are cluttered around for training, and the warriors who have come early have already started warming up. I can even hear some of their General Gammas, who come with the other warriors, talking to them like a makeshift coach as they brainstorm their strategies in whispers, as if it were some trade secret.
Lillian’s POVIt’s been a week since we found my mother… or the woman I grew up thinking was my mother. The day after that, I visit the Moonstone pack once again to ask her more questions, but her lips are tight shut, and I can’t get anything out of her.Like he promised, Keegan hasn’t severely punished her yet, which could lead to her death. She’s given food, but nothing satisfying, and her holding cell is worse than that of a dog.Aside from that, I haven’t seen her or Keegan again. And the days feel like… It’s just drifting meaninglessly. Empty and uninteresting. Each day, if I am not sleeping and locked in my room, I’ll be in the front yard of my house, training like hell is coming after me. In my mind, I keep thinking that if I keep sweating and moving, then maybe the sharp emptiness that is clinging to my chest like frost will finally crack and melt away. But every night when I crawl back into my bed alone, the silence wraps around me tighter than any blanket. And in that silenc
Keegan’s POVThe scent of Lillian’s suppressed tears lingers in the air like invisible shards that sting my heart. My fists ball into a tight clench while I stare at Raquel, who completely shattered Lillian’s every last bit of her already broken heart from the pain I have brought to her.Raquel dares to call herself a mother and grieves for the son she has lost, and yet she treats another child whom she could have treated well like a punching bag to vent all her grief.I can still see the pain in Lilian’s eyes. Her beautiful eyes bears raw betrayal, paralyzing confusion, and that silent, bleeding sorrow she tries so damn hard to hide. She hasn’t crumbled yet. And she never does. She is that strong. After all, if she isn’t, she probably will never be able to survive living in my pack with no one standing by her side. But damn, she doesn’t deserve this. She doesn’t deserve a mother like Raquel, even if she is just her adoptive mother… And she sure as hell doesn’t deserve the man I am b
Lillian’s POVMy knees go weak, and I almost fall. Both Craig and Keegan stretch their arms out to help me, but it is Craig who successfully manages to steady me.But as soon as I manage to stand up again, I hold my hand up to them.I am not done yet.I don’t care how mad Keegan is, but it certainly won’t be able to suppress mine. Turning back to look at her, I ask in a hollow voice, “You provoked Keegan’s mother and told her my child isn’t worthy…”“Why?” I ask, as if I haven’t heard her words enough. Her expression hardens as she hisses and repeats more clearly, “Because you were about to have everything… Everything and more of what I lost! A Luan title and a pup! I cannot let you win. I cannot let the one who caused me pain and caused my child’s death be at the top while his bones rot six feet below the ground!”Every word he utters crashes through me. It isn’t an accident. She intentionally wants me to lose my child. An act of revenge. Revenge for something I don’t even know abou
Lillian’s POV“You were never my daughter.”I stagger backwards upon hearing her words, every word echoing nonstop to my ears and slicing through me like a blade.“W-what… What do you mean?” My voice comes out almost like a whisper as I stare back at the woman who raised me, but I can barely recognise her. She becomes smug and looks at me with that annoying grin and cold eyes as she flatly repeats, “You were never my daughter.”Leaning forward, her elbows on her knees with her thumb and index finger holding her chin, she adds, “And I never wanted you to be.”If I am in disbelief earlier from her words, I am left speechless now. It’s as if all my vocabulary has been erased from my brain and vanishes into thin air.I just look at her with my pounding heart, all the past flashing back into me. But despite the long years of how badly she treats me, what repeats on my mind over and over again are those good days we had with each other. With my breathing hitch, I swallow the lump in my thr
