Marcus POV

I stood in front of the enormous stone door with my arms folded across my chest, staring at the place where Hansel had disappeared.

One second she had been standing beside me.

The next, the symbols carved into the door had glowed, the stone had opened like it was made of liquid, and it had swallowed her whole.

I had expected to feel nervous when it happened.

Instead, I was irritated.

Very irritated.

“What if she’s been gone too long?” Caleb asked.

I glanced at him.

“It has been five

Marcus POVI stood in front of the enormous stone door with my arms folded across my chest, staring at the place where Hansel had disappeared. One second she had been standing beside me.The next, the symbols carved into the door had glowed, the stone had opened like it was made of liquid, and it had swallowed her whole.I had expected to feel nervous when it happened.Instead, I was irritated.Very irritated.“What if she’s been gone too long?” Caleb asked.I glanced at him.“It has been five minutes.”“Exactly.”“That is not long.”“It is when a magical door eats someone.”I sighed.Caleb paced in front of the door, looking like he was preparing himself for battle.Sasha and Marie stood a little farther away, watching us. The others had already gone through the door one after another. Knox had gone first. Mila followed and Hansel had just disappeared, now it was our turn. The problem was that neither Caleb nor I wanted to admit we were nervous.“So,” Caleb said, stopping beside m

Hansel’s POVI stood outside the enormous stone door, watching the glowing symbols slowly fade.Mila had gone through and then Knox. One after another, everyone would have to face whatever question the door decided to ask.I rubbed my palms together.“Okay,” I whispered to myself. “You can do this.”Marcus stood a few feet away, watching me.“You don’t have to look so terrified.”I turned toward him. “I’m not terrified.”He raised an eyebrow.“You’ve been staring at that door for five minutes.”“I’m thinking.”“You’re panicking.”“I’m thinking aggressively.”He laughed and I rolled my eyes. “Very funny.”Then the symbols on the door suddenly lit up.The laughter died immediately, a deep voice echoed through the corridor.“Hansel.”I took a breath.“Yes.”“You have spent your life learning the ways of magic.”I nodded. “You have used your power to protect others.”“Yes.”“But you have also hidden behind your magic.”My eyebrows pulled together.“What?”The voice continued.“You have

Mila’s POVI stood in front of the enormous stone door, staring at the glowing symbols carved across it.Knox had already gone through.I had watched the door swallow him whole after he answered its question, and now I had no idea what waited for me on the other side.I glanced at Hansel, then at Millie.Everyone was watching me, I took a deep breath and then I stepped forward. The moment my foot crossed the invisible line, the symbols on the door lit up.A deep voice echoed through the corridor.“Mila.”I swallowed. “I’m here.”“You seek knowledge that could save the world.”I nodded.“You claim you would sacrifice anything to protect those you love.”“Yes.”The voice went silent for a moment and then it asked:“If you were given the power to kill the Demon King immediately, but using that power would also kill one innocent person you love, would you do it?”My heart stopped.I stared at the door. “What?”“Answer.”I shook my head. “I would” Then the voice continued. “You are lying

Knox’s POVI stared at the stone door and the symbols carved across it were glowing faintly, their light crawling over the surface like veins beneath skin.Nobody spoke, everyone was waiting.I looked at Mila and she was standing a few feet behind me, her expression tense but determined.I reached for her hand and she squeezed mine.“You go first,” she whispered.I nodded.I didn’t like the idea of leaving her behind, even for a few minutes, but if the door was going to ask questions, someone had to answer first.I stepped forward. The moment my foot crossed the invisible line in front of the door, the entire corridor went silent.Even the sounds of breathing seemed to disappear. The symbols flashed. Then a deep voice filled the space.“Knox Mercer.”I stiffened, it knew my name.“You have spent your life protecting those you love.”I didn’t answer. “You have killed for them.”My jaw tightened.“You have lied for them.”I remained still and the voice continued.“You have betrayed oth

Mila’s POVWe stood in front of the tunnels for what felt like forever. There were so many of them. Each one disappeared into the darkness beneath the mountain, and none of them looked particularly welcoming.Knox stood beside me, studying the entrances carefully.“So,” Sasha said, breaking the silence, “we’re just supposed to pick one?”“Apparently,” Marie replied.Caleb sighed.“I really hope we don’t pick the one that gets us killed.”“That’s reassuring,” Hansel muttered.I looked at the first tunnel. It was wide enough for all of us to walk through without squeezing against the walls. There was no strange smell coming from it, and unlike some of the others, there were no claw marks around the entrance.“I think we should start with this one.”Knox looked at me. “You sure?”“No.”He raised an eyebrow and I shrugged. “But we have to start somewhere.”He nodded. “Fine, everyone stay together.”We entered the first tunnel.Immediately, the temperature dropped.I wrapped my arms aroun

Henshaw’s POVI didn’t know what to do, Elliot was asleep on me.His head rested against my chest, his body slightly turned toward mine, and one of his arms had fallen loosely across his stomach.I stared down at him and I looked away. Why was my heart beating so fast?I could practically feel it pounding against my ribs. This was ridiculous, he was injured and fell asleep om my shoulder, that was all.He had been exhausted after fighting those demons, and he’d simply fallen asleep. There was nothing strange about it.Absolutely nothing.I carefully shifted my position, trying not to wake him.Elliot barely moved, hi breathing was slow and steady, his white hair fell around in waves. I swallowed.“You’re making this difficult,” I whispered.Of course, he didn’t hear me.I stayed there for a few more minutes before carefully moving his head onto the rolled-up cloak beside me.He stirred slightly and I froze. “Elliot?”He remained asleep so I slowly stood up.My legs were stiff from

Knox Mercer……. I didn’t want a Luna. That was the truth no one seemed willing to accept. The council chamber was quiet, and I sat in my chair while Conrad and Caleb watched me. Generations of Alphas were carved into the walls, staring down at me like judges waiting for me to fail or slip up.
